View Full Version : KVM Switch
Using a KVM switch to allow 2 cpu's to one monitor how does the monitor actually know how to display both views? Does the montior know to split on the x/y axis or will their be some sort of "switch view" feature? The switch is just hardware, so it cant possibly be controlled by that, and i dont think it's packaged with any software. I understand how the wire connections occur, but how are the screens viewed?
A KVM switch allows you to "switch" between using computer A and computer B, it does not "split" the view. In other words, it allows you to use 1 Keyboard, 1 Video (monitor) and 1 Mouse and switch between 2 different computers.

on my kvm i hit the scroll Lock button twice then up or down or 1 or 2 to switch between computers.
Just my two cents... I've had bad luck with digital KVM switches (I have 6 computers that are all connected to a KVM) and recommend that you check out older analog devices at computer shows, you can get them really cheap and they work without any problems... I probably just had bad luck with the digital ones but the analog one im using now is great... I do miss the 2-tap scroll lock switch feature though :]
