Good day, after hearing a lot of positive reviews of powweb, I decided to host our site here. Unfortunately, the apparent instability of mysql03 is making me think otherwise...
Our site is run on vbulletin, and as many of you who share my woes know, it renders your site useless when there is no database connectivity. Although this usually lasts for only 2-3 mins, its unacceptable!
I would like to hear from powweb, as to WHY we are seeing so much reboots of this server and what they intend to do about it. If I can't get an answer, I will have to take my business elsewhere.
We were thinking of hosting 2 more site with powweb, but this has put a pause on this...
Here are some times and dates of the outages :
7/22/04 6:10pm EST
7/21/04 10:07pm EST
7/19/04 7:11pm EST
7/15/04 6:04pm EST
7/10/04 12:48pm EST
the last time mysql03 was rebooted was about 2 weeks ago for an OS upgrade (FreeBSD 4.9 to 4.10). None of our mysql machines are dedicated machines, but the uptime of the mysql server alone usually is very high. A couple of minutes downtime can be caused by a single bad query. These are not dedicated machines. If you need a dedicated server, by all means, get one. We will continue to monitor their performance and remove or disable repeat offenders, but thats all you can do in shared environments.

Thanks for your reply :) , this does clarify the situation for me.
Regards,
David.
My major SQL-based site uses mysql03 and I can't recall the last time I had a problem with it. I have my site e-mail me for any SQL-related error and have not had such an e-mail in the couple of months since I set that up.

I use Vbulletin 3.0.1 and was getting this error :
Database error in vBulletin :
Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error:
mysql error number: 0
- persistent connections to mysql are turned off, and the forum load is light. As James said, it most likely is time for a dedicated solution. Anyone else have this problem under vB?
Thanks :)
David
My osCommerce store on mysql03 is fine. I suspect your problem is not with the server.

Yeah, I came to the forums today to find some answers too as to why we were having db down times...
Not that my site requires the use of sql for it's presence, but the forum users on my site were complaining... a little...
Since the above outage times match mine, I figure your answer was good enough for me... Just as long as there wasn't anything major to worry about.
Thank-you!

Hi .. the last time it happend was on :
3/8/2004 11:59pm-12:16am .. thats been the only time since the last post. There is a similar thread about Mysql05.. a fact of life with shared sql hosting.
Otherwise .. powweb has been great. For a non-mysql site .. I would use them again!
