View Full Version : Creating new directory
I am trying to create a new directory for one of my sites
FTP01
I open up my CUTE-FTP program,
and it opens the site.
I then open HTDOCS
I click on "create new directory" and put in the name - which in this case is "xphotos01".
I then click 'OK' it it reloads,
but the directory isn't there!!!
I have done this twice - with this same result.
I also tried to "Copy and Paste" but a note came up saying something like "this program has made an unlawful error, etc, etc and will be closed down".
I have made directories in my other site, and there has never been a problem.
This is the first directory I have tried to create in this site.
Is there a step somewhere that I am missing???
Appreciate your help - thanks
Geoff

GeoffI don't use CUTE-FTP, but the steps seem to fine to me, provided you didn't actually put the quotes for the directory name :)
As a test, can you upload a simple TXT or HTML file to the htdocs directory?
Can you create a directory at the same level as htdocs?
and finally, try WebFTP and see if you can create a directory using the web interface at both levels.
Hi,
and thanks for your answer.
No, I didn't use the quotes!!!
After reading yours, I created a directory 'test' at the htdocs level - no problems!!!
Deleted it and opened htdocs, and tried 'test' again.
Perfect!!!
So I tried 'xphotos01' and a message was there saying it cannot create it because it already exists!!!
But it's not there!!!
And yep, all files upload perfectly.
It's just this directory that is the hassle!!!
Dunno what to do now???
Change ftp client or try using webftp.powweb.com
I would hazard a guess that your "invisible" folder is so how corrupt. Did you use any symbols with it? Either way, you may not ever find it to delete it. I would try another ftp program. I use SmartFTP and really like the program.
Hi NMS - Change ftp client or try using webftp.powweb.com
I went into webftp
The htdocs directory opened and I could see that the folder/directory I tried to create is not there (xphotos01)
The htdocs took ages to display and after showing for a while, the "page not available" notice came up

Thanks for the note.
I have used CUTE-FTP now for three years or so, and have never had a hassle.
That is, until now!!!
And it is creating folders/directories as I wrote in my posts above (the 'test' directory)
As I said, dunno what to do.

As I said, dunno what to do.As you've established that CUTE-FTP has created the directory you wished called xphotos01 I'd now raise a support ticket explaining what you've done, the error message that now appears (telling you it already exists) and asking them to delete it (if they can see it) or for them to indicate what is wrong.
