Not being picke up yet...

I built a website for an acqaintence of mine, and submitted it to all the search engines I could... particularly, dmoz.com and google. That was a month and a half ago... I know that we need to let the Robots get in there, but we still are not getting picked up...

Today, I redid my meta tags, with PowWeb's meta tag generator... I hope that helps...

Are there any other secrets?

The Open Directory Project is notoriously slow at adding new sites. Wait times of many months are not uncommon.

The best way to get into the search engines is to get other well-ranked sites to link to yours. The search engines will then find your site from such links. But start by making sure your site isn't already in Google by searching on:

site:www.yoursite.com

That will show you all of the pages from your site that Google knows about. Good luck!

It may be worth buying a few one way links if you're desparate to get into the search engines. You can get into pay directories pretty quick or you could buy text links from a related site. There are some advertised on www.buy-links.com
