I've been helping a friend build her web site and we have run into a slight problem involving Netscape/Flash and DHTML menu. Everything works fine using IE but when viewed in Netscape the menu drops down behind the Flash image. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this so that the menu is usable by viewers using Netscape? This is the address for the site we are having the problem.

Howdy!

If I'm not mistaken, Flash and DHTML in NS don't play well when it comes to z-order, the layers on which different things are rendered by the browser.

Basically, Flash overlays the DHTML.

First off, layers and netscape dont mix................as a matter of fact, websites and netscape dont mix............so lets find every copy of every netscape browser and burn it!........it would be better for everyone that way. If your hell bent on pleasing netscape, I would simply visit the site and search for the info and specs that you need help with.......good luck.............froggy.

Let's be nice now.....

If it weren't for netscape, IE..... woulnd't have have a reason to tweak the code to suit itself.......

Seriously..... If you want the site be be viewable in netscape & IE.... there are a few things netscape.... and IE disagree on....

one is layers... netscape doesn't support them.... because the code for Layers can be extremely bloated.....

the other is CSS.....

yes, these are neat features.... but really provide no FUNCTION .... to the site.....

if it were as big an issue.... as a lot of people claimed..... then yahoo...google.... cnn, and many others woudl run multiple sites.... but they don't...

ever go to Netsacpe in an IE Browser......? Looks the same...

As for FLASH.... netscape is capable ov viewing Flash... once the plugin is installed....

Thanks for the information on why it isn't working .........That still leaves me with a problem......the site owner wants the Flash images to stay.....as they are about the most secure way to protect the images. Any suggestions as to how to handle a menu that large and still growing that will work?? I've thought of using a menu on the left only...............but so far the owner wants to use the images for links.......so that is not real feasible for the number of pages involved.

Thanx

The menu I did use does supposrt multiple sub levels.........but it doesn't work across frames or handle the flash.....Thanks for the pointer to a different one that does handle frames, it will likely come in handy if not here then somewhere else....I did find a way to deal with problem with the flash but it's not really worth the time it will take to set up so Netscape users are just not going to have any luck !!!! I do appreciate everyones time in helping me with this problem
