View Full Version : Such Thing as File Hosting?

I love Powweb with their cheap hosting and high resources. However, I had always wondered if there was such thing of hosting companies that can just host files and offer bandwidth. Such as a GIANT briefcase like yahoo offers. Then you could hold your giant media files on this server and just request the file with it embeded on your powweb page [so you are leeching yourself]. Each service option will allow certain GB of space and certain GB of bandwidth.

Anyone ever hear of anything like this?

Thanks
Ryan

*ALSO, about this hacking. It seems that the two major problems discovered were MOST LIKELY FrontPage and older versions of vBulletin?

from the sounds of what you're looking to do, you already have the ability to do. Nothing says you must have "pages" in your spce. You could use your space as a repository... that's up to you.

Additional space is available by purchasing a second package. With this, the space AND bandwith doubles. The user has to balance their own bandwidth and it can be a subdomain of the existing package.

As said above...thats what you're doing now. Powweb is one of the cheapest around for bandwidth and disk space.

Of course there are free ones out there that have those nasty advertisements on it (and the dreaded pop-ups)...but they also have their limits.

I know some sites offer disk space only that you can FTP up and down from...but you can't view it from a browser.

Yeah, that is kind of what I thought.

I was gonna have one package under www.mydomain.com and then another under www.mydomainstorage.com.

And then leech the hell out of myself. This is not an issue yet but I plan to have streaming video so I am currently looking around.

Thanks
