I have added my site a couple times but it not showing up... why would that be ?

Have you tried adding it lately? The directory has been totally redone and should be easier to add a Powweb site to.

What is the site you are trying to add? Is it a new site that is not available yet?

it tells me my domain name is still pending ...does that make a difference ?

Yes it might, as I believe the addition process checks to make sure that the domain is active.
