Folks,

At an earlier time...someone here (I think) suggested Audacity as a good utility to record and edit audio streams from the Internet...and it works GREAT !

I often view video clip streams (in RealPlayer and MediaPlayer) and would really like to be able to record them (like having a vcr in the pc) - since many cannot be downloaded...only viewed via streaming.

Does anyone know of a utility can record video streams? (particularly a free one... :) )

THANKS

P.S. I have also heard that Real and Media streams might cache somewhere in a hidden file that can be copied and renamed (in order to preserve it) for later viewing.....sorta ending up with the same thing as a downloaded file.

For PC, WMA (Windows Media Architecture) provides a bunch of freebies for encoding clips into streaming media.

For Mac, you can download QuickTime Broadcaster. Quicktime (http://quicktime.apple.com)

For Microsoft's solutions: select: WMA (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto.aspx)

After viewing a clip, the wmv file is often present in the temporary Internet Files folder for the taking (but not always.)

In IE, Tools... Internet Options... Settings... View Files... sort by date accessed.

You can also try opening the page with www.getright.com . It will show you the files within the page.

Forgot to say, that you have to open the page within the Getright Browser under Tools.

Googling brought me to Hi-net Recorder (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Hi-Net_Recorder) which looks to do exactly what you want.
