My site went down over the past hour when I was at lunch.. .maybe they are linked...
ooohhh it's a conspiracy HEHE
That's odd. I'll keep an eye on it. I restarted apache and that got the site back up and running. It may be another denial of service attack.
Yup, my site is down too again!

According to tbonekkt's status page, none of the Load Balancing #1 servers have http running. That's scary! I can manage to open the enyo.net page, but it is VERY slow. lunar also seems to be ill.
My PHPBB is loading slow or not at all.
At least I can see it now so it appears a fix is near.
Thanks to the staff. You peeps are always on top of things!

Several severs are having intermittent issues. We're aware of it and the admins are taking a look as I type this. Thank you for your patience - we hope to have everything corrected as soon as possible.

lol just the laugh I needed right about now
Well I'm back up, Thank you! :)
edit:Well, I was for just a second!
Hey Tonia....I see your signature line says you've referred 7 people to Powweb....hmm...guess this isn't quite the time to be bragging about it, huh? :D
btw, it still amazes me that the actual powweb site never seems to go down. When I mentioned this once before I was assured it was because it was on a load-balanced server and once all the sites were balanced then everyone would be "up" just like powweb always is. Well, we're balanced....but we're still down and powweb is up! (guess they're on the OTHER line of balanced servers).
now....what to do in the downtime....guess I'll work on my Christmas list..... :D

Yeah, I've referred like 12, makes me look not so good at the moment! :o
According to tbonekkt's status page (http://status.tbonekkt.com/) the load balancing server for #1-10 is back up but 4 of the 10 individual servers are still down. I think it sort of means it's a crapshoot....if you try to access your page and it happens to go to one of the down servers it won't work....but if you refresh and it randomly goes to one of the up servers you'll get your page to load. So it won't be reliable until all the servers 1-10 are back up (btw, I'm just assuming that's how the load balancing stuff works).

my sql server must suck b/c my forums are still down....
honestly i think it's a good idea that powweb's is always up b/c how else would we complain to support when we have issues? that doesn't really bother me at all...
hmmm well now that everyone has enjoyed my posts of the day.... :)

bah.....Pow Webs is still one of the best I have ever had, regardless. This is only the third time in a year of service that I have had my site go down "unschedueled" and other hosts I have had were FAR FAR FAR worse then that. Don't even get me started on the "freewebs" paid services...sheesh...this is a pleasant break compared to THAT place...so I still think refering people to Pow Webs is something to be proud of...
anyway mysql05 blinked for a second or two then decided to stay asleep...

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i hate freewebs
I was just teasing about this being a bad time to brag about referring people to powweb. I'd still refer people because it does offer an enormous amount of features for the price....for my purposes it is more than adequate (a recreational fansite)...however, I would have some reserverations about referring powweb to someone looking for a host for a business site where reliability is more crucial...as a fansite it's not a big deal if the site goes down for 10 or 15 minutes but for a business that could be a big deal....I have experienced frequent (almost daily) downtimes (I know because my forum program sends me emails whenever the mysql server is down so even if I'm not on the forum I know it has been down and hardly a day goes by without a few emails). OVERALL, it is a good value for me though.
btw, according to tbonekkt's status page everything is now up except for lunar's http. Is anyone still having mysql problems?

I think it sort of means it's a crapshoot....if you try to access your page and it happens to go to one of the down servers it won't work....but if you refresh and it randomly goes to one of the up servers you'll get your page to load. So it won't be reliable until all the servers 1-10 are back up (btw, I'm just assuming that's how the load balancing stuff works). That's not how the load balancing works.
If there are ten servers in a load balancing cluster, the cluster switch will distribute the load evenly between all online servers. If a server does go down, the switch will not send requests to it until it is back online. So a down server should be transparent to the end user and site visitors.
yeah, I was only going by how it appeared to be working. When 4 of the 10 servers were down I could keep hitting "refresh" and on maybe the 5th try the page would load whereas I got nothing with the first 4 attempts....so I just assumed that on the 5th try I had randomly hit a server that was "up"....it was the intermittent nature of the downtime that made me think it worked like that.

Not a problem! I just wanted to informed everyone how it does work. :)
no problem Tom, it's good to learn how these things work and I appreciate the information. Btw, I just had a thought about your server status page....is it on the powweb servers too? Maybe the load-balanced 11-18 ones? (since it didn't go down when the load-balanced 1-10 was down). The reason I ask is....what happens if the 11-18 circuit goes down? It was helpful to have your page to check the status when all this was underway....it would be a shame not to have it if a similar thing happened to 11-18. Can your status checker also be hosted somewhere on a non-powweb site?
I agree for a non-commercial website, powweb is a great value. If you don't need 99% uptime than $7.77 per/month is a great deal. On the other hand if you buy into their proposed 99.9 uptime and put a business website on their servers, you (myself) may be dissapointed. If anything, I have seen their uptime and connection times worsen over the past few years. Once again, that's ok for a hobbiest website but not a business or e-commerce one.
Since I was the first to complain let me also be the first to praise.
In terms of value, support, reliability and diligence, POWWEB rocks.
At one point I leased a dedicated server and resold space and thought I could be a hosting company. Then I decided to give POWWEB $7 a month and let the pro's deal with it.
Also, my site's running fine now.
