In my site, I want to place a slot where the user can enter his email address (for a newletter). Do you suggest using formmail as usual or there is something more easy?
Thanks for any help
If U don't want the user to use his own mail client to send U the mail, I think the formmail-function is the best - and easy to setup if U use frontpage (templates). Just modify the path to point to powweb's formmail 'script'. U can check how I've done it by clicking "Feedback" and then "View Source-code" on my page: http://www.misterbister.com
I already have a formmail installed:
http://www.nmgroup.biz/contacts.html
and I did not use frontpage!
The question refers only to get the email from users. An example site is:
http://www.ralamb.net/
According to the form at the bottom of the, U should get an e-mail, but from the formmail/mailgate (at server) and if the user type their e-mail-address in the field I can't see the problem (maybe I'm just tired... ;)
When users submit the form, don't u get an e-mail then?
Check the source on my form: http://www.misterbister.com (use the link to feedback).
You can use FormMail for a email subscribe script. Simply place a form on any page and only put in an email field (make it required) and a submit button. That should work.
Now there are subscription CGI/PHP scripts around the web that can actually allow some one to subscribe and unsubscribe, but you can get away with using FormMail. Just give them a way to unsubscribe in the email, maybe to a page to send you their email with "unsubscribe me" as the email title or something.
Just my thoughts!

Try the mailing list service of Bravenet.com
It is fantastic and FREE. IF you want to see it in action check out any page of my site....I have a newsletter subscription form at the bottom of each one.

Additionally it is an automatic double opt-in list program which is fantastic as this completely alleviates spam complaints...which can be a big pain in the arse.
Hope this helps!

There a tons of newsletter scripts out there. Ones that let the people subscribe automatically and, most important, un-subscribe automatically. Most scripts have a email page where you type what you want and it will send it out to all who are subscribed. I got one installed at http://www.berkswebguy.com/newsletter.shtml . It also checks to make sure it is an email address...not just junk.
Good Luck
hey guys...tnx for your help....but I managed to do it with formmail...

What I suggest is a double opt-in system.
The user supplies their email address. They then receive a response from you at that address that MUST be replied to before they are added to your mailing list.
Why?
Too easy for someone else to sign them up and then they report you for spamming them. Even though you provide a means to remove them from your mailing list, that is no longer a viable option since spammers use that to actually collect addresses.
Remember, if you are reported for spamming that's a direct violation of Powweb's TOS and you WILL be shut down. Powweb isn't really flexible there (or elsewhere for that matter).
it depends on the contents on the newsletter you are sending!!
