Seeing how I was one of the biggest "gripers" about the recent woes of Magnatar, here's something positive:
(Disclaimer: For us superstitious types, I am knocking on wood before I type the following...)
Over the last few days, it seems that performance (at my site at least) has been much better. I am guessing that this is due to the mentioned upgrades to Magnatar. If so, thanks for doing so, Powweb. It seems I only hear from my site's users when something is going wrong. I figured I'd at least post here because something seems to be going right.
I hope this continues to be a temporary fix and that we will see the benefits of the load balanced servers soon, but in the interim (and for the moment) there is an improvement. Thanks.

Now that's what we like to hear. :)
Thanks for the comments and for sticking with us.

My own website is on Magnatar as well as one of my clients' websites and I am superstitious. While my site is doing better, four of my clients hosted on PowWeb have been affected by the DoS attack. Several with php programming were affected by the changes to PHP handling. Everyone was affected by that stupid greylisting.
Like the weather, some can be affected, many or even all can be affected. Today was terrible, but life is not perfect. We do appreciate the hard work from the PowWeb support team to improve service. We always complain when things go wrong, but we should also be thankful for all the good stuff.
I still think those of us on legacy deserve a few months free or something for our patience. Come on! I just had a new client sign up and get several months free and what did I get? :D

Actually I love being on a legacy server and 'free'. I'm not really looking forward to them being load-balanced...but I'm sure all the kinks will be worked out by then...and the performance and reliability will be greatly improved.
I've got to toss my 2cents worth in here as well.
I have 2 domains on Magnatar and they have been running better than they have in a long time. They never were "terrible" but the php pages had gotten real sluggish for a while. But after the last upgrade to Magnatar, those 2 sites have been running "with the big dogs" with php pages loading faster than ever.
We have a shipment of new servers due to arrive in the next week or so from dell. At that time we will be upgrading all legacy systems. We also have more replacement load balancers on their way that are 5 times more powerful then our current ones. When this is done we will be able to load balance all our servers.
The problems with 11-20 today were not because of a DOS, and let me assure you that if it was aimed at a legacy server (or a single server for that matter) the sites wouldn't have been slow... they would be completely down all day. When we get our new fire wall finally situated, things like this shouldn't be a problem again for anyone.
.....let me assure you that if it was aimed at a legacy server (or a single server for that matter) the sites wouldn't have been slow... they would be completely down all day.....Let me assure you, James, that my site was not slow today, it was DOWN.

Agreed on the Magnatar issue... Magnatar has been GREAT since you upgraded his memory and CPU (and whatever else you guys did). Thanks... Agreed with above also, DONT load balance Magnatar until Load Balancing is fixed (or the DOS attack/firewall/whatever is fixed up!)
Thanks though for the efforts on Magnatar. They shine through! :)
the load balancing isn't broken... its the firewall, but if magnatar gets dosed... its more likely to go down without load balancing...
