View Full Version : Flush margins

I've added this:

leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"

...to my BODY tag to achieve a flush, edge-to-edge look for my web site (http://dogbros.public-eyes.com). Works fine in Netscrape (4.79), but in IE 5.5, it only spreads out after I refresh the page. Is there something I'm not doing right here?

If you visit my site from here, and you're using IE, you won't see what I mean. If the page opens in a new window, everything looks okay from the start. The non-flushness only happens when the site opens in the current window.

Like if you typed in the URL from here, you'd probably see what I mean. There's a gap on the right side of the page between the tables and the scroll bar. Do a refresh on the page, and the gaps disappear and the page looks like it's supposed to.

Maybe I shouldn't worry about minor stuff like this, but I do. It buggggs me.

Hey Ronski,

I tried to duplicate what you mentioned about the margins, but could not get it to show any different.

Really like Natasha Turovsky's work. She has Salvidor Dali look to her works. Got to tour Dali's museum in Tampa Bay a few years back and it was a real treat. He's one of my favs.

Thanks for looking, Alpha. Maybe it's some setting in my browser. The gap only shows in IE 5.5, and only if the site loads in the current window. On links with "target=_blank", it doesn't show at all. And it doesn't show in Netscape. And doing a "refresh" makes the gaps go bye-bye, too. The gaps appear on the far right of the page, between the rightmost tables and the scrollbar. About 20 pixels wide, they are.

Oh, well. Vexing situation, but not critical. And maybe I'll tumble onto a solution one of these days.

Yes, Tash has some good work. A picture of one of her paintings is appearing on the cover of some magazine next month. Her mother is also an artist, and quite good, too. I featured both artists at my old Crockett Street Gallery, an online art site I had running for a couple, three years. It's gone now.

Found a fix for the non-flush problem. I added this:

style="margin:0;padding:0"

to my BODY tag, along with the original:

leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"

Now it works right. Everything stretches edge-to-edge in both IE 5.5 and NS 4.79 whether the page is opened in a new window or the current window.

Ahhhh.

Good deal, Blurchy. I spend half my time designing...and the other half trying to make pages look the same in both browsers. And forget about Opera and WebTV! I don't even get into that. Matter of fact, I don't have the newest Netscrape, either, so I don't know what that does to the HTML. AOL browsers? Another question mark.
