I have a client who is representing Patriot Security Organization and needs a logo. He has a specific design concept and would like to choose the best design from a few graphics designers without spending alot of money. The budget is limited for this nonprofit organization to increase awareness, education and expertise in U.S. national security.

I suggested a contest and he has agreed to pay $100 to the winner. The details and a picture of his design concept can be seen at http://www.powerpageswebdesign.com/graphics_contest.htm . The contest deadline is January 31, 2005. (Sorry, his choice.)

Feel free to spread the word!

The design should look like an outline of the letters P S O. The P should look like the head of an eagle with the beak grabbing the S. The S should look like a snake with the tail being grabbed by the O. The O should look like an eagle's talons and be connected to the lower part of the letter P.

The design concept picture is the client's rough sketch to explain the specifications. I hope this makes things clearer.

Please look at the client's design concept at http://www.powerpageswebdesign.com/psologo.jpg before designing. I have received submissions that do not fit the specified criteria. Not from anyone here, though, but some young artists that were a little to eager to enter.

For those of you who have already started your design, the client has changed the exact colors but navy blue and gray is still the color scheme. The colors can be tweaked later. As long as the design has navy blue outline on a gray background and can be inversed.

Bill asked me, "What if I don't like ANY of the designs?". I replied, "Well, you award the prize to the winner, then pay someone else to design it." I am sure that SOMEONE will have a winning design that will look great on his website.

I will post the winner here and if the winner is a PowWeb customer, that would be really neat!

I received an email asking if we accept entries from people in other countries. Yes, that is why we opted to use PayPal to pay the winner. If the winner is in the United States and would prefer a check, I guess that would be okay. Check the PayPal website to see if you are in one of the 45 countries accepted by PayPal.

For those of you still working on your designs, please review the client's specifications. He has now further requested the logo should look "mechanical", but I think he means "metallic".

See http://www.powerpageswebdesign.com/airforce.jpg to see what I mean.

Thanks.

If anyone here is participating, but has not yet sent a design, feel free to send your unfinished designs for review. I have received quite a few designs from local people and some emails from people who saw the post here. It appears that there are no entries I received so far that I feel the client will use for his website.

The design should look like an outline of the letters P S O. The P should look like the head of an eagle with the beak grabbing the S. The S should look like a snake with the tail being grabbed by the O. The O should look like an eagle's talons and be connected to the lower part of the letter P.

The letters should form the shapes in a likeness or representation of these designs. You must be able to recognize the letters. Keep it very simple. Use only the colors navy blue, gray and possibly black and white as you create the metallic appearance.

I bet one of you has a really cool design and you will email it at the last minute. Billy is getting curious, but I haven't sent him anything I got so far, since they are not what he wanted. I think that someone HERE has the winning design. Don't let me down!

I have received several designs from local artists, but not too many from here. The two best designs were from people who saw this post. You can send your unfinished design for review now, so you can get advice and have time to make changes.

One of the two best designs is from the United States, but the other isn't. This design is a logo for Patriot Security, United States national security. Come on, fellow Americans! It is your patriotic duty to participate in this contest and win. :D

Maybe I should post the finalists here, but in the end, the client will be picking his choice. It's his money. ;)

Well, I was only showing him MY favorites and not all of the entries. :D There are two Americans and one nonAmerican entry at the top right now. The deadline is supposed to be the 31st, but I may wait a day for the last minute entries, because I have to go through them anyway.

For those of you who waited until the last day to submit your logo entry, I would be grateful if you upload the design to YOUR server and send the link to it to me via email (preferred) or PM. As you can imagine, my Inbox is getting full again. Thanks. ;)

We have more competition now as I suspected would happen. Good news! Billy said he may pay for other designs for promotional use, so there may be more than one winner! He still wants the actual logo to be like he specified, but he does like the other designs we have received (that I showed him).

I hope to post the design finalists on my website and of course the winner by the end of this week. Good luck! :)

There is STILL time to get your design entry to me via email. I have posted the finalists at http://www.powerpageswebdesign.com/psologofinalists.htm but this list may be changed, if you get your entries to me by tomorrow. I hope to post the winner on Friday, if possible.

From Billy:

Thanks. It is probably a good idea to tell the finalist that they are the
finalist and that a decision will be made based on their edit by Thursday,
02/03/04. Remind them to keep a copy of the orginals. After that, there
are no more chances for this prize, so give it a final push to victory!
Billy

Please check to see if your design is a finalist in the competition at http://www.powerpageswebdesign.com/psologofinalists.htm . Those people can still submit edits to the design. Though the images were not displayed in any particular order, the first two are the main competitors as far as Billy is concerned. But you still have time to make changes.

Of course, anyone who thinks they got something better can sneak it to me at the last minute. I did post finalists BEFORE the deadline for you all to sneak a peek. ;) Please, the top two finalists are not American! Don't let this happen. :D

If you are unable to see the Javascript image rotation, just look at http://powerpageswebdesign.com/pso/ and yes, Terry, one of your designs is posted there. I just posted a few last night and since the explosion down the street this morning, things are even more hectic. Hopefully, I can post some pics of the huge cloud of smoke. Made the news again!

If you are unable to see the Javascript image rotation . . . You are just messin' with us right? There are no images - or maybe just no javascript?

My favorite is

It works in IE and not Mozilla! Oops! Sorry. Been too distracted with the explosion. My neighbors have been evacuated. Just peek in the folder for now and I will get to it. I have to pick up Mark from school since our road is closed and the phone keeps ringing.

I will probably post thumbnails to click to the images and hopefully post pics of the smoke from the pipeline smoke. It stinks and probably caused me some (more) brain damage! :D What a day.

Okay, the new Javascript image slideshow works in IE and Mozilla. I finally got around to it. Feel free to post comments here about the designs. Maybe that will help Billy decide. Thanks.

I like Swapnil`s but then again iam biased lol

YvetteKuhns
2-2-05, 09:34 PM
Acrasia, you must be the guilty party that alerted Swapnil of the contest. Billy requested revisions to be posted tomorrow hopefully. My husband liked Ana's best. I like Swapnil's, though it didn't follow Billy's criteria. I like Ana's, though the circle may need to be removed for small printing. I like Jackson's, since it would look good in any size. I would put Jackson's logo in the center of Ana's circle and use Swapnil's for advertising purposes, but not the actual logo. But it is up to Billy.

The criteria for this contest made it more difficult than anyone originally anticipated. I thought that anyone who made an honest effort deserved recognition, so the finalists were posted and will remain there. Kudos to all our finalists!

By the way, Terry sent more designs but I didn't have time to post them. He decided to step aside for others to get the glory, but we had some interesting emails. ;)

Thank you again everyone! Feel free to comment on the designs here.

I have to admit yes I am guilty, I do like Ana's, but to me, being not American I guess it seems similar to alot of other designs. Jacksons I find hard to destingish the letters when you first look at it, sorry Jackson. But they all are great, then again Iam no expert. :)

I know I said I hoped to post the winner today, but Billy is in New Jersey and won't be home for a few hours. He will let me know who the winner is tonight and I will try to post it tonight.

Anyone interested in seeing Jackson's revised entry can view it at http://powerpageswebdesign.com/pso/jo_pso_final.jpg . Feel free to comment on all designs posted in the pso directory. Billy and I value your feedback.

A revised logo was submitted by Ana, but Billy had already decided on the winner. And the winner is... Ana Jagoda. She asked that her contact information not be made public, but for those who have to know, she is from Sri Lanka!

Thanks again to all who participated in the design and feedback. This was very helpful to Billy since he has now opened his mind to other designs and may pay to use some of the others such as Swapnil's for promotional advertising.

Next time I do this I better make sure I have more room in my Inbox! :D
