Orion has been gone for a long time, it was moved to Mars and then a few weeks ago Mars was moved to Magnatar.

Magnatar is the server that is down and is mentioned in THIS ANNOUNCEMENT (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=43651)

I agree. Intermittent access to my website as well. This is getting OLD, Powweb. ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND DEAL WITH IT. KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS POSTED ON DEVELOPMENTS, BEFORE YOU LOSE THEM!!!

Yes, indeed....DOWN AGAIN as I type this....I am beginning an active search for a replacement webhost at this point.

This is getting to be an everyday thing. Does anyone know what the problem(s) is with this server and why it hasn't been taken off line and replaced with one that actually stays up more than down?

B&T's server status is dead as well. What on Earth is going on?

We'll call it, fun with powweb!

Hardware fails...software glitches...

The REAL problem with this situation is the apparent unwillingness of the webhost to acknowledge it, and take the necessary measures to fix it once and for all. There have been too many excuses and patches. This problem can be measured in months, at this stage.

I praised them the other day when they allegedly upgraded Magnatar. Supposedly a replacement server is on the way as well. The "upgrade" was effective for about two days before we went right back to the old grind. If the new server doesn't make a difference.....I'm outa here!

haha it's cool. I just like to tease when I can.

My status page is down right now. Admins are currently working on stopping the runaway processes caused by a resource abuser.

Tbone, I noticed that many servers are affected. Is this runaway process able to bring down many servers (including the non load balanced one I am on: Magnatar?) Thanks.

Craigstrom

Must be a heck of a process... None of my sites on 2 different servers respond at all (page cannot be displayed).

Amazingly, this site remains up, though...yet no one can post a clear and concise message regarding what appears to be a widespread issue. The phrase "this is going to hell in a handbasket" comes to mind...

I am a very very patient person, but these past few weeks have been irritating to say the least. I wish these problems would be fixed once and for all. And don't tell me the standard line "they're coming up just fine for me" because my site has been down almost daily for the past few weeks for at least 20 minutes at a time.

Site down again. About the 3rd time today this has happened. What is going on?????

UH? is Magnatar a legacy servers?

Better yet, can anyone interpert the above referenced post for me?

Any server with a celestial name (magnatar, space, lunar, etc.) is a legacy server (the others being www01, www10, etc.).

After slipping in, unaware of the problem, to post a page on our site, http://www.iaff2067.org, I managed to misspell several words. Upon fixing my mistakes to avoid embarrasment by anyone peeking in, I was unable to post the fixed pages.

The good news? NOBODY ELSE CAN ACCESS THE SITE EITHER!

Tbone, is there an ETA on the Celestial Servers (Magnatar). I see the cluster servers are back.

James mentions something about future renameing/renumbering legacy servers in this announcement:

As to routing issues, that's beyond me.:)

Good luck,

Magnatar isn't even on that list!!! Maybe thats why my sites have been down for hours! Instead of replacing Magnatar, they just threw it in the trash!!!

So, we will have to make changes in our scripts, if they rename or renumber the legacy servers? I will not be looking forward to that. I like "andromeda." I want to keep it. :p

If I remember correctly, Magnatar had it's own "issues" a little bit before, and had been replaced already. But it's still part of the legacy server list.

Yeah, I was on Space, now Terra as of a couple days ago. I'll miss being a "space cadet". :)
Already getting nostalgic ::sniff::

So, we will have to make changes in our scripts, if they rename or renumber the legacy servers?I don't see why you would have to change anything. Your path won't change, path to perl won't change, MySQL is no longer on the legacy servers. The only thing you should need to change is the hostname in your FTP program.

No, I do not have an ETA. All I know is that the admins are hard at work. We despise downtime just as much as you do. ;)

The legacy servers have gone through a lot since we replaced them, we identified a number of problems and fixed them this evening, such as wrong port setting on the switch, ect. Lunar and magnatar should be running MUCH better now. Cron jobs that were running on mulitple machines which caused problems with cron and the load on the servers in general has been fixed.

All legacy servers are up now and running.
