Nothing has been changed on my end.
Yes, I can telnet the server just fine.

Any ideas?

Ensure you have SMTP Server Authentication enabled. Try changing to port 587 for SMTP.

Changing to port 587 worked. Thank you.

Now, could you explain why this is suddenly needed, and why I had to come to these forums to find out why powweb broke all of our email clients without bothering to warn us?

Now, could you explain why this is suddenly needed, and why I had to come to these forums to find out why powweb broke all of our email clients without bothering to warn us?They didn't change anything. This is as a result of various ISP's changing things. The advice to use port 587 has been given for months.

I'm not sure I buy that.
If it was an ISP issue, then it should have broken my other email accounts, right?

We made no changes on our mail servers. We made port 587 reachable on our network several months ago as an alternative to the default SMTP port 25. ISP's all over the country have been instituting "port 25 blocking" as a measure to deter spamming. This means that customers of that ISP would only be allowed to send mail through their ISP using port 25. The ISP would then block outbound connections to port 25 from their network so that their customers wouldn't be able to spam the planet from their network.

Once you changed your email client to send out on port 587, it bypassed your ISP's imposed port 25 block allowing you to connect to our mail server to send email. Of course, this would only affect your ability to send through PowWeb's SMTP servers. Sending through your own ISP would not be affected by port 25 blocking.

Cheers,

Brandi

Hi Brandi,

Please be sure you have SMTP Authentication enabled in your email client. If you are using Outlook, it would say something like "My SMTP server requires authentication". Make sure that is enabled and that you have entered your PowWeb POP3 username and password. Also, login to OPS, click the SMTP link and make sure your account is listed as an "owner" so it will be authorized to send mail.

If you are still experiencing difficulty sending email, please contact our Support team at support@powweb.com so they can troubleshoot the issue further.

Cheers,

Brandi

That explains it.
Thanks for taking the time to point out the obvious to me.
I apologize if I came across like an ***.

I've tried all the things mentioned above but still cannot send emails. When I change my port to 587, nothing works so I changed it back to 24. When I click on send a test account settings (Outlook) everything works except the test email - then it tells me to check the email address - which is correct. It hasn't changed in years.

I sent a test email to our business address this morning and it still hasn't come through. Any help would be great.
