View Full Version : What's up with FTP & additional FTP users
For the last few days I have not been able to add an FTP account. I have a client who needs access to their files, but downloading one file at a time via HTTP is ridiculous.

Thanks alphadesk, but my problem is not addressed in the post you mention.
I originally had an FTP account for my current client, and it worked as expected. When the FTP problem started a few days ago, I and he, could not login with assigned domain name. Unfortunately I did not see the post regarding the use of the actual host name until I had deleted and re-entered it. It is now listed as pending, and non-functional, ie can't login.

FTP Passwords expire 90 days (if I'm not mistaken) after no-login. If this isn't an issue, what are you using for your ftp server? ftp.yourdomain.com or something like ftp01.powweb.com? The second one should always work - the first, only if you've got a cname setup.
Jray,
It might be faster and easier if you just create a new user/pass for that ftp user. When you delete a user in OPs it takes some time before that user is actually deleted from the server.

I agree with that!
Thanks jj, but that's exactly what I did.
Perhaps I should give a more detailed report as to what I have tried so far...
1) As expected, I tried the normal 'mydomain.com', user names and password for my main and users accounts. Neither worked so I assumed something was up with FTP. Unfortunately I ended up removing and recreating a newly created account, to no avail. This appears to be part of the problem.
2) After seeing the FTP problem posts, I tried terra.powweb.com and found my main account, and a second account I created worked fine. However, I had deleted a recently created user account and then recreated it. After more than a day (perhaps almost two) it still shows an asterisk next to the name denoting it as 'pending'. Indeed, it is not accessible. It was not showing an asterisk before the deletion and recreation so I would assume it would have been usable had I used the terra.powweb.com address prior tp its deletion. Oh well, it's too late now. I have tried other user names as a test but they show a pending status and are unusable after several hours.
An interesting point is that the new account was accessible through the ops panel via http last night. Now it isn't. Weird...
As a side note, the account and password seem to be in place. It's just access that's restricted. When I use the ops panel to attempt access I get the message:
"The password you entered returned the following results:
Encrypted Password in Database: Matched
FTP Server: Failed, unable to connect!"
So the account name and password are seen as correct.
When I try access via WSFTP using the wrong password I get:
"530 Authentication failed, sorry
!Login failure, so quitting"
but when I use the correct password I just get:
"!Login failure, so quitting"
It's apparent to me that the account name and password are accepted as correct but for some reason access is being denied.
OK, I gave up and called support. My first time ever...
After calling twice I now have all of my FTP accounts listed as pending!! How nice. In addition, the new account I added now goes to another user's directory. This is not acceptable!!
PLEASE!!!!!! I just need 'one' specific account made functional. I realize Powweb is having some issues regarding FTP and clustering/load balancing, but I need my user's account to be functional.

I'm actually getting a similar error.
I try to connect to ftp01.powweb.com with the correct user name and password and I get:
530 Authentication Failed, sorry
!Logon failure, so quitting
(this is using WS_FTP LE)
The same type of connection failure occurs in Dreamweaver. I went to my OPS and then to the FTP tab and verified the username and password. I received the following:
* Encrypted Password in Database: Matched
* FTP Server: Failed, unable to connect!
I am aware of the problems with ftp04, but is this a related problem? A fast response would be appreciated!

This thread should be merged with http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=46600 and all the others. I forget where the other one is where we listed what worked and what didn't for FTP.
My biggest problem is that the new account points to another user's FTP site. This is just not acceptable.
I called support for the third time today. I asked to speak to an admin. I was told this was not possible. Fine, is there an admin here???? What is going on please!! If my FTP users cannot access their account for a day or so, it's far better than allowing them to access another user's data. Can we fix this now?

YvetteKuhns, perhaps I'm a bit dense, but you're pointing to this thread. I already know what I've said. :)...
