Just uploaded some file through my ftp and this file appeared in my folder and doesn't seem to want to be deleted.
.pureftpd-upload.4203b60d.15.6728.eb98d134
What is IT?
OK Shortly after posting this it was able to be deleted.
From my experience, that's an imcomplete file transfer from WS_FTP.
Tom, I know what a detail guy your are :D PureFTP was the predicessor to CuteFTP. It is a bad upload. I've had it happen before and here is the real weird part...
Luckily I was only uploading 1 file, so I knew exactly which one to reup to the server. So I did and bingo the .pureftpd-upload.4203b60d.15.6728.eb98d134 stuff that I couldn't delete, automatically changed to the filename I was up loading.
So I suggesting that if you were uping one file re-up it. If you had a few files I'd still do the same. Other than that you would have to email support to have the file deleted. Only problem with that is one of the files that you up loaded is not there. If we're not talking a big number of files, I'd do the re-upload it all thing and the errant file should disappear.

WS_FTP...CuteFTP...what's the difference? I use FileZilla. :D
Isn't that just a temp file created by Pure-FTPd (FTP server software used by PowWeb)?
See now there you go extras...being all smart again. ;)
All I know is I use FileZilla and have never seen one of those files, so I made the assumption that it was software-related and not the server daemon. But I guess it could be.

But I guess it could be.If you set "show hidden files" in your ftp software, you will see these all the time. They are server-generated, but hidden most of the time.
I've seen that once or twice.
But usually we don't see it because we don't check directory listing when uploading ... generally.
I mean, I wait until the uploading is finished, and then I'd check the list.
I guess some folks are anxious to see their files up on the sever. :)

I've seen that when I check the directory to see if all of the images are uploaded to it, then click them to see that everything is okay.
The logo contest was interesting, because only Swapnil's images were not viewable UNTIL I opened them in Photoshop, Save for Web, then uploaded those images to PowWeb. Swapnil is currently a student in Australia, but originally from India. I never had a jpg that wasn't viewable, yet had a file size. It was viewable on my desktop, but not from the server!

extras, you got me
I did a little research and found that I've been living a lie. I am in agreement that it is probably a server tag of sorts on a failed upload. Now here I go speculating again, but perhaps for clients that utilize resume upload on failure type things.
The light has dawned and I find it coincidental that PureFTP was also the name of the base work for Cute before Globalscape picked it up. I'm so ashamed ;) Self-imposed ban from the forums for the next 3 minutes to make up for errant ways :D
