Hello,

I learned HTML and CSS *just enough* to get this page up. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have on how to improve it.

I hope to learn more in the future and perhaps your responses will give me an idea about where to start!

It's a little short on content, but I intend for it to grow along with me, rather organically. Comments on the content, however, are welcome as well.

If you have the time and the inclination, I'd welcome your comments on my husband's page as well, even though it's not hosted by PowWeb.

Thanks!

Thanks! I had come across HTML validators when I was creating the site, but I forgot to check the whole thing once it was uploaded and not just bits and pieces.

I fixed the site as per your recommendations and will fix the other errors soon.

Again, thank you!

The pages all validate now, except for one (question posted in HTML/CSS/javascript forum).

Any other input? Are the colors okay? Is the text easy to read?

Wow. For a "newbie" you have an excellent grasp of typography and color. I'd raise column 2 so that it is even with column 1. You are already showing the information hierarchy with your header size, no need to lower column 2. The only thing I don't like is your nav section, when you are on a current page, the link fades too much into the background. Otherwise good work, keep it up. (tested in Mozilla 1.7.3 on a Mac)

Thanks, Elise!

I didn't say I didn't have any *design* experience, though. The reason I was trying so hard to find a serif font for my body text is because I've done print design (although it's been quite a while), and I was biased towards serif fonts :)

I'll think about your suggestions about the columns. The layouts of all of the pages have a certain similarity that I want to preserve, but that first page *has* been bothering me. More likely than not, I'll widen that "welcome" paragraph and put "what's new" down below it. (Similar to the poetry, ideas, and homemaking pages.)

I'm not exactly certain what you don't like about the navbar. Is it the pinkish color that's not distinct enough from the background? I've really been struggling with these colors! Do you think bolding the font would help or do you think I should choose another color entirely?

Thanks so much for your feedback!
