Sorry this might be a dumb question but what is the difference between the different versions of flash (5, mx, mx2004). I currently have Flash 5, but i was told that i would be better off using MX for webpages. Can anyone answer this question please? Thanks

MX and MX 2004 are the same... all though MX 2004 professional is different because it allows you to produce a "frame by frame" output which makes a power point presentation, but its way better though... also MX pro comes with Data bindings for remote access giving the ability to produce richer interactive material tyo connect to servers, databases etc...

all MX's give you video ability, plus actionscript 2.0 which is more powerful and has more options for abilities to produce different and richer internet material... Actionscript 2.0 also utilizes the "dot syntax" which is very similar to Javascript. MX is also comes with components like "scroll bar" "panels" "Calendar" etc. which make creating easier and faster.

Flash 5 dosent have any of the newest crazes for the web like video or the ability to do full rich interactive presentations...

If you are just doing animations I would say stick with 5 if you all ready have it, otherwise MX is the way to go... MX 2004 should be more then enough for you, but if you want to go the extra mile get MX pro.

Good luck

Just to add...

If you're doing basic flash with animations, mouseovers, and basics like that...5 is fine.

If you're talking about programming and actionscripting...I would try to go with MX. There is a difference in that respect.
