Hi,

I have created a website with some .swf files - one on the index, 2 on the homepage of www.strangefolk.co.uk
When I preview them in dreamweaver (this is what used to create the pages) with firefox the animations play. However when I try and use IE on the Internet and actually go to www.strangefolk.co.uk a "macromedia shockwave" loading box is displayed and nothing else. When You click on enter and the home page loads, 2 white boxes are displayed instead of the swf movies. This is the strange bit, firefox willdisplay the files when on the internet, and a friend who went onto the site using IE said that they played back fine but no one else is able to view them , they just see the white boxes.

Anyone got any ideas? I just inserted the swf movies into the pages, well a cell, and read somewhere you can or should use layers but I did not. Could it be something to do with the background image?

Please help!!

Regards J.

you probably don't have shockwave installed or configured for ie, i opened it up fine in mozilla, but had a request to install shockwave when i opened it in ie.

you can also check your publish settings in flash, try publishing a page with the html option checked and then open in dreamewaver and see if there is a difference in the code surrounding your movie.

I don't actually have flash - I used one of those .fla and .swf text generaters then imported it into dreamweaver. I've just tried viewing it at work and the same thing happens with IE just displaying white boxes instead of the movies, yet on other sites flash movies do play.

Would I be better off using .fla files instead of .swf? These are the options in the text generater I am using for exporting files.

How do I check that shockwave is configured properley?

Instrestingly when I preview with IE a message comes up under the address bar with a yellow shield stating that content has been blocked, would I like to view this content, may be unsafe...?or something like that. When I click yes it displays the movies. However, when I view over the interet, this doesn't happen and just white boxes appear.

This is really frustrating!!

i can't tell what it is, but it is something in the html, i viewed just the swf in ie at http://www.strangefolk.co.uk/images/intro.swf and it played just fine, go thru your code and see if there are any problems, did you place it in dreamweaver with insert>media>flash menu? try going thru and placing it again. also it needs to be in swf format that is the viewable format, .fla is the editable format that opens in flash. hope this helps some

Hey thanks,

Um I don't really know anything about HTML - what should I be looking for?

Does this .swf need to be on a new layer or something?
Yeah I did use insert, media, swf.

It's just real weird why IE can't handle it but Firefox can.

Any help would be great - I will re-try placing the movies as you suggest - at work at the minute (!)
