when i initially set up my system, i partitioned my drive to have 2 gigs for my windows drive (D:) and the rest partitioned into other sections. the problem is when i download programs and try to install, they automatically try to unpack temp installation files to my D drive which does not have enoug space. usually i can clear up 20 - 50 megs for an install, but i recently tried to install a program that was asking for way more than i could clear up. there is no option to unpack to a different directory and it doesn't matter what drive the program is in when i start the installation.

is there a way to change the default unpack location for installations that do this? maybe modify a windows file or change my registry. repartitioning my drive is not an option, there is way too much info and not enough time to go thru all that again.

thanks for any help or ideas you might have.

might wanna check your path settings Not sure what O/S you're using, but if it's 2000 or XP you can find it by right-clicking on my computer, going to properties, choose advanced, then environment variabels. There'll be user variables and system variables. I'm not sure what variable that would use, but probably temp or tmp.

Be careful not to mess around with the ComSpec path or your OS paths or anything. :)
