There has been many "fixes" many new twist and turns lately when it comes to fight the slowness issues that swept the servers for the last months, and www14 for more than 9 months...

The last twist is impossing a 500.000 hit limit.

So the supportforums get flooded with ppl getting shut down due to these limits. According to pw 0.5% will be affected and forced to leave.

60.000 x 0.5% = 300 users

300 x USD 95 = USD 28.500. (no extra support related issues included)

In marketing you allways talk of the top notchers (20/80) etc... these are the ppl causing most problems, but also contribute the most. I wonder which amount of referals these 300 users have per year...

Anyway... you should be able to buy a server for usd 28.500 and even some more bandwidth (to host these 300 seperate). I even guess you could charge them a bit more, and they still be happy. That is if the customer is in focus.

I never doubt the importance of ease the life for the remaining 99.5%, so actions has to be taken.

But impossing a new rule causes another element to the serverhandling (which opens up for more possible problems, and problems do tend to occure.), and there is another reason why one should not signup at pw. (one allways does the +/. math before investing... I still believe there is way more +++ than ---, but counting down).

So as you might guess, I personally not a fan of the new twist ( and I'm not affected ).

Besides, all the recent shutdowns should have imidate effect on the serverload, but has it ?

I'm a great fan of the work done to reduce the slowness, but not all of the solutions.

I guess you will end up with buying a new fileserver in the end ;)

Best of luck is wished, and if it counts for something, the last 14 days the pages have been accessable during the bad hours ( yet very slow...) which is nice for a change ;)

The forum is very slow and my sites been slow since this morning! i guess they have to come up with a limit. Their post said less then 1% of their users, use that much hits. Im wondering its only 0.05% users how come its such a big deal and they have to make a policy out of it?

It's not the number of affected customers, it's the proportion of resources/hits used/created by those customer that matters.

Note: Nowhere do Powweb claim the 0.05% use 30% of resources, I used the figure for illustrative purposes only. :)

It just seem strange that a policy like this is in place over 0.05%! But i do get your point. And im no in the mood to unload files from the site!
