Good question! I've just set up a second database (first is on mysql03) and this one is on mysql02 -- response time is MUCH worse that that of mysql03. I've also had this same error several times today on a brand-new phpBB site that isn't even public yet.

I too am having connectivity issues with my phpBB board, is this something that I should
learn to live with or is POWWEB taking steps to increase the ability of the servers to handle
the apparently overwhelming demands being placed on them?

I need to be able to run a STABLE and RELIABLE forum and I'm starting to get worried.
We switched hosting to POWWEB b/c we wanted to expand our site and needed the
greater bandwidth to accomidate that growth...

Any suggestions on how to cut down on phpBB dB queries per page?

Site is at: http://www.jregrassroots.org

Thanks! Hopefully this gets resolved quickly

I though that only mysql09 is to blame. lol :D I guess, mysql sucks in general.

I guess, mysql sucks in general.MySql is a database system with a success story, it doesn't 'suck in general'.

What seems to be the case, is that Powweb is having a database management problem at their site. This is not a surprise due to the shared environment. I don't know on what criteria new databases get assigned to which database server. But Powweb has no way to know what activity will happen with a database and what size the content will be. If they have bad luck, they will pool large size and high activity databases on the same server with all applications running their highest demand at the same time, while other servers may be running near to idle.

I have been getting "Too many connection" errors for the past four days on mysql03. I sent an email to support@powweb.com, however, since they were not able to recreate the error... it died. I'm currently keeping a log of outages to help fix this issue.

Please send an email to support@powweb.com if you are having these issues! lets work in mass.

Send them:
SQL Server name (i.e. mysql03)
DB Name
DB username
DB password
Domain Name
Mother's maiden name (optional)

This way they can have some info to work with and not think is is just an individual case.

There are apparent issues with mysql09 in particular and other mysql servers at the moment. The admins are aware and are working towards a resolution. I will respond with further updates as they become available.
