View Full Version : Okay ....
On the recommendation of a friend I went ahead and created a new MySQL database (on mysql05.powweb.com) and also downloaded the latest version of the forum setup that I'm trying to reinstall on my domain but I'm receiving the following error when I attempt to install ....
phpBB : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database
So frustrated trying to install a forum that I've had no problems with installing in the past.
Any ideas what the problem is or what I can do?
Thanks!!

Well in the last couple of days it seems the database has been going down as my site has experienced this error a bunch of times. Hopefully it will play out soon, right now its working for me fine.
There have been recently reports that indicate that some MySql servers may be working at the limit of configured connections.
The other issue may be the limit of connects per hour per database username. There is a workaround for this, by using up to three usernames and multiplexing the requests among them.

If that's the case I guess it wouldn't hurt for me or my friend to randomly try and install the forum in the off chance that one of us strikes it lucky.
Thanks! ^^

Cool, thanks a lot. I'll check that out. ^^
Double check your server name and DB name
Sometimes a space before or after the server name causes a problem.
User names / passwords are case sensitive.
Finally got it installed. Thanks for your suggestions. ^^

Yeah, the day before yesterday I spent all day installing phpEmployment and I kept getting similar errors. I thought something was wrong with me, only to realize later that mysql09 does not work properly.
