Hi,

Alot of spyware and adware and virus is floating around the net lately, As I have seen small business clients who is infected with this and slowing their computer down. POPUPS pop up everywhere, and its no stopping them. Here is a turtorial for all of you, who is infected with this.

1. turn off system retore
right click on my computer on the desktop, then go to properties then on the tab choose system restore. and check the turn off system restore. hit apply and ok.
2. go to control panel and remove all the programs that you don't know or you don't use.
start > control panel > add/remove programs.
3. check for viruses and trojans and worms on your system.
download stinger from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
run it and scan for any known viruses.
4. update your virus scanner and do a full scan
5. do a windows update
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us
6. download http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
install it and run it and update the software but don't run it.
7. download http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
install it and run it and update the software but don't run it.
8. download http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe
install it but don't run it yet.
9. Now you got all the software up to date. Go ahead and reboot the computer in SAFE MODE.
10. Run CWSHREDDER > find anything and fix it
11. Run Adaware > do a full scan and fix
12. Run spybot > do a full scan and fix
13. Now reboot in normal mode and OPEN up web brwoser and browse around to see if any pop up occur, if all is good go ahead and turn on the SYSTEM RESTORE.
14. I also recommend getting the google tool BAR.
download it here http://toolbar.google.com/

15. is for ADVANCE USER if you don't know what you doing please don't do it!! just skip this part. It really don't cause any harm, it just a bunch of program being loaded at start. Just look for obvious one that doesn't look right to you.
15. Programs startup.
start > run > msconfig > startup > then uncheck all the program you don't know that is starting up.

This should fix all your POPUP and other STUFF that is on your computer!!

Thanks

Granted, this is somewhat an in-depth list however, if you don't know ANYTHING about spyware, don't do it. You'll corrupt your network drivers or system files in the process which means no more internet or computer until truly fixed.

It's not good to make this a sticky.. Unless you're prepared to go in-depth on registry repair, Internet help object and active x removal, along with winsock repair.

The worst case spyware corrupts all of those things, so if a user does "clean" his own system, he will run into those issues. Leave it to the people that get paid to fix your system

2. go to control panel and remove all the programs that you don't know or you don't use.
Too many people have no clue what program name goes with which program, or what may be in Add/Remove that is a system component. This is NEVER a good thing to tell non technical people to do!

10. Run CWSHREDDER > find anything and fix it
NO ONE that is not somewhat tech savvy should ever run cwshredder and let it fix/repair/delete files. This is a good way to totally disable someones computer for them.

15. Programs startup.
start > run > msconfig > startup > then uncheck all the program you don't know that is starting up.
This should never be used as a permenant stop for programs loading. It is meant only for temporary use, to disable a program for testing purposes only.

Basically, I have to agree somewhat with jschein, most of these things should not be done by a novice. Using SpyBot and Adaware will do the most good for the novice users, and they'll still have a running computer once they're done if they used them wisely.

True jj.. looked at your site, nice informative place btw. May ask to post some of your links / content on my site in the future.

I just revamped my site with mambo and have alot more to go but do to current slowness issues I'm slowing down a bit as it takes 10 minutes to mod one page.

My belief for end users and spyware is this:

If you have no pop-ups / wierd things on your computer, load ad-aware or spybot s&d. This will help you. If you are already infested with the such, ask a professional to help.
