I posted a week or so ago, and I am still having them.

I am on ftp01 and I get either a timeout or "Connection Lost". Like this morning it took me 3 tries to just get into my forum folder.

Are you using active or passive connections? Whichever you are using, try the other. What firewall are you using?

Yah it's not something wrong with Powweb because FTP01 is working fine for me <.<

It may be your client app configuration or even something weird between you and the Powweb servers different from the rest of us...

However, I have and use BeyondCompare, DW, FP, SmartFTP, IE, etc. for FTP access for a variety of methods for different aspects of posting and checking on site-realted things (comparisons, backups, syncing, file/folder updates, etc.). Access to FTP01 and FTP02 servers seem to be working OK and have been for several days without problems for me. Plus I have not had problems with Passive mode either and use that on SmartFTP...

I just used FileZilla to test ftp01, ftp02, ftp03, ftp04, magnatar and asteroid as well as other web hosts. I just installed a new hard drive since I messed up the other when my CPU overheated. FileZilla works great, so I may not even bother reinstalling CuteFTP which makes me run a program to edit my registration to match the new hard drive.

Last night and earlier today I ran into the same errors, lost connections and timed out.
Sometimes it would re-connect, other times I would shut down the ftp program and start over. One folder with maybe 30 files in it took 3 tries to get everything transfered.
I use FileZilla and that particular account is ftp jupiter.powweb.com

Happy Days...you are not alone :)

RancherTry doing a tracert from your machine to jupiter - see if there are any long periods in the hops. - This will indicate the problem is with the routing provided by your ISP - or otherwise.

If the tracert doesn't give any satisfaction - disable firewalls and AV progs temporarily and try again. --- Again if this lets things work enable one of them - test, enable other (alone) test ... Sometimes the interaction between FW and AV progs causes a problem.

As an example, this is what I get from this side of the Atlantic:

Thanks, Ian, I'll give that a try when I do updates again. I've not had any problem with ftp for ages and when it works right it just zips along.

Thanks,
Rancher

This is strange. I have two packages, one which has its FTP on ftp02, and the other on the legacy Asteroid server. In both cases, using both FileZilla and the FTP client built into the Coffee Cup HTML editor, I find that every OTHER FTP transfer succeeds. In other words, the first time I try to get a directory listing (in FileZilla) or upload a file (in the HTML editor) it simply hangs; if I disconnect and reconnect immediately, it works fine.

This one is new to me. Any ideas?

I have had no problems with FileZilla and I logged in on several servers including magnatar, ftp01, ftp02, ftp04 and possibly others on PowWeb as well as those hosted elsewhere. But I did have the weird problem briefly where I could not upload one little file after being logged into the same server to download files for the same account. We never did get a reason why this happened.
