Hello,

On Friday, my AMD Athlon overheated and it is no longer usable. In fact, it looks like someone put out a cigarette in the middle of it. I hadn't even finished building my backup tower that was the main tower until IT got toasted when my cable modem literally went up in smoke. Every time I managed to get some money to buy a part, I would have to replace something on the main tower.

So, I have one tower working. I wasted the entire weekend troubleshooting, installing software and rearranging my office. I had to check email on my old school laptop which my son had in his room. He was fishing all weekend with my dad, so he didn't know I took it. My husband and my son are fighting over the computers and I am going crazy!

Does anyone have a spare AMD? We don't have money right now until the federal income tax refund comes. Stupid website was trying to charge me to file electronically, though it was supposed to be free. Probably because I did my parents' tax returns electronically first. Anyway, we don't have the refun money yet. I can offer services or something else. Please do not ask for pictures of me nude like one of my clients always does. I don't want to get into any trouble.

Email me if you have something. I can upgrade the motherboard since I have one in the box. The old mobo only takes up to 1.3 GHz. The new tower has a Gigabyte K7 Triton series GA-7N400 motherboard and the AMD 1.4 GHz. It can accept Socket A processor for AMD Athlon, Athlon XP and Duron (K7). The new mobo is an Asus A7n266 (new in box but bought at a yard sale from a neighbor who was moving to Florida. It was tested by me and works. It supports AMD Athlon and whatever. I can't find the darn manual as I type.

I saw a 1.6 GHz AMD for $43. Maybe I can just wait for that. But if someone has one gathering dust and feels sorry for me, let me know. My son and husband will appreciate it and so will I. :)

Okay, I found the manual for the Asus motherboard and it supports the AMD Athlon, Athlon XP and Duron Socket A (462) processors. I prefer a processor that can work for either computer, because I often swap parts, but at this point anything to get it running would be nice.

My boys are fighting over the computer to play games like Chicken Invaders. My son got the highest score, so now my husband has to try to beat it! I have work to do, but they can play while I do dishes, laundry and other noncomputer work.

Maybe my parents will give us money for an anniversary present and we can buy the processor. Mother's Day will be here soon, too. Just have to wait and see I guess.

I might be able to help you out. Send me a mail and I will rummage through my junk pile tomorrow.

I would offer you a chip if I had anything ... honestly I would. Unfortunately the best I've got is a 233MHz AMD, 233MMX Pentium, and 200 Pentium... all of which are a far cry from what you're looking for. :(

I just finished rummaging through junk pile #1 and I have a ton of PII's, PIII's, Xeon's, Socket 8's and other miscellaneous processors, but nothing that will fit in to a Socket A.

However, I still have a couple more junk piles to rummage, so I will get back to you later today after I have dug through them...

I have tons of OLD processors, SDRAM and other things that don't work in the newer towers. My son won't use his old computer he got when he was 3 years old. It is too slow for the Lego games with video in it. ;)

If people need old stuff like that, I have it. I even have old Mac stuff in the basement. My husband likes when I do dishes or laundry, so he can shoot the chickens (the pc game). :D

If anyone does find a processor, we would be grateful. Thanks to all who sifted through their stuff to look. I know I don't have a spare, just a collection of AMDs I have fried or ones that are not compatible.

Hey, Skunkboy. Why don't you report your new Dell laptop stolen and get another new one from Dell? Then you can send it to my son. No, wait. My son could get in trouble for stealing your laptop. :D

lol :D

Well, first I need insurance that will cover stolen laptops and then you'll have to remember to never call in for service - then it'll be okay. lol

I wonder why Tom hasn't replied here yet... you said the macgic word, that should've triggered somethin' in him to stop by :p

I am still looking. I am disgusted at the number of processors I have, but so far no AMD's that will work...

Skunkboy, I thought JJ might have one. Don't know about Tom.

WATRD, maybe your kitty hair caused static and zapped yours! ;) I was surprised that I had so many other spare parts, but not these.

A friend of mine sold his AMD Athlon to his mom just before mine went. He was going to buy one of my motherboards for his computer when he acquired an upgrade from someone else. Bad timing for me.

Thanks again for checking.

Yvette,

Did you get my reply to your PM? If not, I "had" some spares, but when my parts room was flooded last summer I lost all of my spare parts and pieces. The only thing that the CPU's were good for after that, was for the sparks display they gave off when you applied power to them.

Why is your name intelboy15 when you use AMD? :D Actually, a very nice man on this forum BOUGHT me a NEW AMD 1.8 GHZ cpu that I am using in my primary desktop. The secondary desktop has the AMD 1.4 that I did NOT fry (yet). Since he private messaged me, I will keep him anonymous. He is cute, married and dresses nice. That is all I can tell you. :)

Thank you SO MUCH, my generous friend. My husband is thrilled. He and Mark were playing the game Skunkboy posted on the laptop and they just can't share very well. :D
