I have an IBM ThinkPad 560Z on which I have installed Linux Mandrake 10. I was using the computer online via a wireless router and the battery went dead.
Now, my Microsoft MN-520 Network adapter and 24x CDROM (both of which are PCMCIA devices) have stopped working, no matter which order I put the devices in or what port (top or bottom). How do I solve this problem and get the PCMCIA working again?

First off, do they work if they're in by themselves?
I would guess not. Have you checked the BIOS settings? You don't say which battery went dead, the main battery dying wouldn't affect the BIOS settings, but the BIOS battery would.
Have you updated any drivers lately? I don't know LINUX installations, but they must come or have available drivers for devices plugged into PCMCIA slots - you should check you have the latest versions for your hardware.
Have you access to another machine with PCMCIA slots? If so, check the devices are working on that machine.

They do not work by themselves.
They do work when I put them in a different laptop.
The time and date also come up wrong, so I am guessing it is the BIOS battery.
Thanks!

Thanks! Then the BIOS is the place to start.
Also, for the network adapter, are the IP settings reset? You were on-line (therefore using the IP) when the battery died. Check the IP settings match those required for your LAN.
