Hi everyone,

I have a camera problem. The camera in question is a Praktica, Luxmedia 4008 and the SD Card within it. Every time I connect the camera to the computer to view the photos, it only displays the photos on the camera's memory, NOT the photos on the card's memory.

There isn't a separate folder to view the card's photos, I've looked.
There isn't a driver to reload as the camera doesn't need one.

Any ideas?

Richard.

P.S. I've managed to get the card's photos on the computer once, and havn't changed anything since.

I don't have a Praktica but is there a setting internal to the camera that may control this? I know on my Kodak there are some settings buried deep in submenus of submenus. :)

If all else fails, get a card reader.

Good luck,
Kevin

I didn't want to get a card reader for a long time because it sounded like just something else to keep track of. Then we lost the little usb cord for the camera and when I went shopping for one, it was cheaper to purchase a card reader with the same cord than the just buy the cord seperately. Once I got the card reader, I really like it. Especially because you dont' have to run your batteries down while you are uploading your photos.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. Excuse my inorance, but where/how much/what sort of card reader would I need, as this is the first I've heard about this sort of thing.

Kevin,

I've looked and looked on the camera for a setting, but to no avail.

Thanks again guys,

Here is a link to some. I bought my at Sam's Club but I suspest that is not an option in across the pond. There are two options, at least in my mind, you can either get a portable one to keep with the camera or one that mounts in a drive bay of your pc. Personally, I wish I had both.

Hope this helps,

Thanks again guys,There are many different types of memory card - you could pop down to your local PCWorld or Dixons and they will have one that can read most types - they now come in 18-1 readers ie one reader for 18 different cards.

A quick search on the internet for 'memory card reader' and restricting the results to the UK gives a number of places where you can order them for online purchases. Here (http://www.memorynet.co.uk/) is just one option - I've never used them as I purchase such things from my local computer fair (they're held in most urban areas of England).

This link (http://www.computerfairs.com/cgi-bin/cfi?M=1&R=2) goes to a web-site that will direct you to when and where there is a fair near you.

Never buy anything from PC World or dixons, you'll pay twice as much for half the product.

Try: www.ebuyer.co.uk or www.dabs.com I have used both many many times and they are very good value.

Ahh well, it was a thought...

In addition to the card reader types already mentioned, there are readers that plug into a USB port (the portable one mentioned?) and PCMCIA cards for notebooks. I use the latter and am well satisfied with it. It reads 4 different types of cards -- SD, Memory Stick, Smart Media, and one other I can't remember. It's made by Dazzle and I think I bought it at Best Buy or Circuit City.

Good luck,
Kevin

I'd agree about buying from a high street retailer in general, but some people also feel more comfortable being able to go into a shop and have things explained to them (often by someone who doesn't know anyway!) and is able to take away the product. Not everyone is comfortable buying on the internet yet, otherwise the shops would be closed :D

So unbelieveably and pathetically true! I don't know how many time I have gone in a store, narrowed my decision to two choices which are usually very similar. When I ask the clerk to explain the differences between the two, he turns an reads the little card that is stuck to the shelf between the two models to me. LIKE I HAVEN'T ALREADY READ THAT! And I think, "This is how you compete with online sites, with this kind of service?"

Sorry for the rant.
