Extract on server?

I was wondering if it's possible if it''s possible to have something uploaded to the server and than have it be extracted onto the server. I run an OOTP baseball league and it would be much quicker if it was possible to zip the file then upload that (since it would obviously be smaller) and i've heard it possible, but didn't know if you could do it on powweb. Thanks for the support in advance

Do a search for 'zip' or 'untar' in these forums...and I'm sure you'll find something that will help you. If not, post back here.

I was searching for auto extract and other things with extract in it, that is probably my problem. *goes off to search for what you said*

I tried what they say in the threads and I really don't know what to do :(. I'll give you guys some info and hope you can figure out what I can do, I've been trying for awhile and just don't have any idea what I'm doing I guess.

Well, the file I want to untar is done with winrar and named LEAGUESITE.rar
It's just being uploaded to the htdocs.

I don't know what else their is to say, if any more info is needed then I'll be glad to answer.

Yea, that's the one I was trying to do. I couldn't seem to make it work. Do you have any idea what that code would look like for my LEAGUESITE.rar to work? I tried it many times (both codes they have in that thread) and just can't seem to get it to work. Believe me I do feel dumb, but I would really like to be able to upload this thing in less than the usual hour it takes me.

I don't know about rar files. If you tar and gzip the file, then you could do it pretty easily.
