Greets,
New PowWeb user, first time poster.
When using the Site Manager, every move I make requires me to input a user name/password, and doesnt actually take me anywhere within a given tab. For instance, by default, it is open to the htdocs directory, but if I try to change to another directory, it asks for username password, and when I give it, it returns to the htdocs directory. And I cant create a new directory within that one. I am trying to create a webstats folder within my htdocs folder, and when I do, I keep getting the above result....I input "webstats" into the create folder slot, hit the button, it asks for username/password, I input it, and it returns to htdocs with no changes made.
Gracias,
Daniel
I cannot help much with the Sitemanager situation since I avoid using it at all cost due to the slow speed at which everything seems to get done. For your Awstats, the easiest way to install them is automatically through your Ops panel under http/usage&stats. Powweb will do the install for you and you will be up and running in no time. Don't forget to secure it with .htaccess to keep people from obtaining your entire directory structure.
As for the sitemanager, I would switch to a desktop FTP program. It is much more efficient for most tasks and you will seldom find the need to go into site manager. A great free FTP client is http://www.filezilla.com

Sounds like a security setting in your browser. Or perhaps a popup blocker.
Use this http://webftp.powweb.com to create folders. [edit] or FileZilla ;)

Much appreciated.
I had tried to simply activate aw in ops, but when I tried to go to the linked folder (in ops) that points to the weblogs, it didnt exist. I suppose maybe it takes a while for them to create it?
RE: password protection, I'm not sure how it got there, but there is now an htaccess file in my root folder that says "password protected directory" , .htpasswd , and "authtype basic", but I have no idea if its right or not, as a matter of fact, not even sure how it got there. A lot of this doesnt make much sense to me yet, and the fact that much of it doesnt happen in real time somewhat confuses things.
Thank you very much. BTW, using coreFTP....was just using site manager because I had read another thread about getting aw to work.
Daniel
EDIT: Just discovered that I have to put the htaccess file into, I suppose the logs directory, after adding "require username" at the bottom it required auth to view the website....learning little by little.

Daniel - just had the same problem - solved it by switching off my firewall & anti-virus software (Norton) when I was using it.
Problem solved.
cheers,

Daniel - I had the same problem, but then I temporarily disabled my (Norton) firewall & anti-virus software in Windows and then I didnt have that problem.

Ever seen the movie "Where's Bob" ? That's how I'd feel if I were on the net without my firewall! It's cool though, I'll just use my FTP program. Thank you very much, I'm quite sure that was indeed the problem.

Much appreciated. I had tried to simply activate aw in ops, but when I tried to go to the linked folder (in ops) that points to the weblogs, it didnt exist. I suppose maybe it takes a while for them to create it? Yes it takes upto 24hrs for your webstats and log files to be generated. Once they are don't mess with the webstats files or you might 'break' them. You probably created it accidently when you were in sitemanager. EDIT: Just discovered that I have to put the htaccess file into, I suppose the logs directory, after adding "require username" at the bottom it required auth to view the website....learning little by little.I recommend you password protect your webstats directory once it is created using sitemanager.

croc - sorry again - being thick, but do you mean pwd protect using sitemanager OR pwd protect a directory created by sitemanager?
and if it is the former how do you do that in sitemanager?!
EDIT: scratch that - found the button/click on the .htaccess tab - cheers.

Thanks all, webstats is working well this morning, and per suggestions both logs and webstats folders are password protected (and varified working...finally figured it out), and the real kicker....Site Manager no longer asks for user name/ password when I navigate it. I have no idea what thats all about, as I still have my firewall running as before!
