Hi all,
just a couple of questions:
I've cancelled today my package as it will expire next week as i do not used much anymore. I would like to know what will happen to my two domains that are still active? Did you save the management until they will expire? I mean evenctualy future domain tranfer to other providers? Thanx
Best regards
Maurizio

I would like to know what will happen to my two domains that are still active? Did you save the management until they will expire? I mean evenctualy future domain tranfer to other providers? You can let them expire, and someone else may pick up the name and use it for different purpose. If it was a domain with a well sounding name, some broker may pick it up and try to sell it for a profit at a price higher than just the purchase price at the registrar. Even if you don't want to use the domain in the future, first check if someone else may be interested in buying it from you.
If you want to keep the domain name for future use, either remain at Powweb's as reseller of the registrar OpenSRS/Tucows, move to another reseller of Tucows, or move to a different registrar altogether. Check the pricing for renewal. Certain registrars will give you a parking space for the domain (minimal webpage, storage like 5MB), most will keep the domain name active with mail forwarding (I consider this very useful). Make sure you have sufficient time to switch registrars, six weeks before renewal is considered a deadline after which a registrar may deny the switch.

Thanx Richard for suggestions,
but how do i know if someone might be interested in my domain? You talk about beeing a reseller here in Powweb. Can you give me more informations? What do i have to do specifically? One more thing: how can i move my domain eventually from this provider to another one? Is not a service offered by Powweb or by the incoming new provider? Thanx alot for your help.
Regards
Maurizio
PS: My decision was not taken because Powweb offers a poor service or low bandwidth but sincerely because at the moment i have other projetcs. As told many time in this forum i have always been very satisfied by this service. :)

but how do i know if someone might be interested in my domain? Offer it at places like eBay. I seem to remember to have seen a website that was auctioning domain names (not organized by a registrar). You talk about beeing a reseller here in Powweb.Sorry, you misunderstood my statement. Not you are the reseller I had in mind, but Powweb is acting as a reseller for the registrar OpenSRS/Tucows. OpenSRS/Tucows will allow their customers to move to another reseller within their adminstration. If you wish to change the registrar altogether, then make your choice, sign up for an account, and request a transfer from the current registrar. The process is automated and you may have to answer a couple of confirmation emails. Make sure that the email address listed for administrative purpose in the WhoIs is current. One more thing: how can i move my domain eventually from this provider to another one? Is not a service offered by Powweb or by the incoming new provider? As long as you are using Powweb to pay and renew your domain name, they offer the domain management page in OPS. When your package ends, you remove the name server entries. When you sign up for a new hosting service, you enter the name server values of the new service and traffic goes to your new website. Some of this functionality is also available directly thru OpenSRS/Tucows at https://manage.opensrs.net/.

Thanx in advance Richard for detailed infos,
you mean that when the 4 June my package expire i can manage by myself name servers
with https://manage.opensrs.net/ assigning the new values of my future provider? I mean, after the 4 June all old fields related to Powweb name server will be deleted?
I can use in the future in Opensrs same username and password i use now?
Thanx is just to learn more about domains management :)

MaurizioI just checked the WhoIs of your domain. Your domain remains your own until beginning of April'06. Powweb did sell the domain to you, so they are your partner until you move to a different registrar. You can manage your domain either thru OPS or thru the OpenSRS website.
When your package deal runs out, it's the best to delete the nameserver entries, cause they would be pointing to a service that isn't active anymore.
If I am correct, your domain name matches your own name. IMHO this is a case where I personally would stick to the domain name for the future.
IMO, switch the registrar to one that gives you more options on managing the domain. You could keep the mail address @yourdomain, and have it forwarded to wherever you have a mailbox. You could sign up for free webspace (many places) and redirect to a temporary homepage, or the registrar may be giving you some minimal space for a homepage as part of the deal. Most registrars will accept you if you extend the subscription for another year, cost should be around US$8. If you make a wise choice, you will also get WhoIs name/address privacy protection included.
Some registrars with competitive offerings:

Just did see, that GoDaddy has a domain auction service, where one can offer a domain for selling:

Richard,
thanx again for your kind reply.
My package expire in 3 days and i set my OPS in "no-renew". One of the various raisons
is also that i want save my privacy. Anyway i will have to change registrar done Powweb doesnt have any masking or hiding tools to do it. Registerfly do! I visited Registerfly and i can move my 2 domains to them with the option of masking domains and buying a email hosting as i can use my personalized email. In this way i can save my 2 domains without let them expire and use them if i want in the future to ask for a WEB Hosting.
What you think about? Is a good choice?

ps: Is posssible to move domains to Registerfly and have the package here?
In other words can i have only an email hosting on Powweb with domains registered on Registerfly?
...can i have only an email hosting on Powweb with domains registered on Registerfly?Sure, your domains can be registered anywhere.

In other words can i have only an email hosting on Powweb with domains registered on Registerfly? When you have the domains managed at a different registrar, you have basically two choices when you have signed up for hosting anywhere:
- delegate the nameservers to the hosting, and manage DNS there
- or keep DNS at the registrar and manage everything at the registrar control panel (this will be the case when you move off PW).
As long as you haven't signed up for a webhosting, and only run a mailserver, you define the MX records and have them point to the service that provides you with email accounts.
Somebody mentioned that PW does provide email service only, but I seem to have missed that sign-up option. Again you have many places you can shop for email only.
Thanx Richard for your support,
i think that is all! ;)
I've learned a bit more about domains .. thanx alot!
Thanx again
