Hi Guys,

The last few days i've been getting a "500 Internal Server Error" message when trying to access my forum. It has been working sweet for three years prior to last weekend. Any thoughts on what would cause this?

I've done nothing different other than updating my site as i normally do. I've been searching the forum for solutions but without success. Plus I have contacted the support staff via email but haven't had a reponse thus far.

Website: http://www.rcyachts.net
Forum: http://www.rcyachts.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d0fa75426e1ffff;act=SF;f=1

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Eddie

There are several possible reasons and I will name a few.

Are the cgi-bin and its directories and scripts chmod to 755?
If not, set permissions to 755 and not 777.

Did you recently install or edit .htaccess?
If so, try removing it to see if this corrects the problem. You may need to edit it.

Is your cgi-bin disabled?
Login to OPS and click Packages, then HTTP (I think) to see if it is enabled or disabled. This happened briefly on a new package for a client a few weeks ago. This can be disabled by PowWeb deliberately if your script was abusing the server.

Did you update or somehow edit your forum script?
It could be a simple change that the server doesn't like.

Did you look at your error logs?
This may give a clue.

Hi Yvette,

Thanks for your reply. I think everything looks like it should. CGI does show enabled in OPs. If i gave you my pw & username could you check it for me please. I'm not to bright when it comes to scripts etc.

Many thanks again for your assistance.

Cheers,
Eddie

Did you want to send via Private Message? I will clear out some of those. The darn thing is full again!

Okay, I made room. I just deleted some old requests for help with FormMail ! I wish I had a dollar for every person I helped with a form script. ;)

See your PM. Sorry that you were hacked. For others following this thread, v 3.0 was hacked and should be updated to 3.1.2. The file ikonboard.cgi was replaced with a file with only one word in it.

Be sure to backup your database, then download the new version and follow the instructions to upgrade.

Just a quick update.

I did as you suggested, backed up database etc and updated to ver 3 and everything is sweet again. I did change the main cgi folder which will change the forum address just to make sure some of the old files don't interfare with the new. I will reinsert the old messages soon.

Long story short is that i'm happy again. The new version adds a refreshing look with the added bonus of security.

Many thanks again,
A freind for ever
Eddie
