View Full Version : A second PowWeb account accessing mysql on another powweb acc
I have two PowWeb Accounts. I want to shift my UBBThreads forums from another IP to PowWeb account "no. 1" and setup a PhotoPost forum on a second PowWeb account but have PhotoPost access the membership database of the UBBThreads mysql database on the first PowWeb account.
Q1. Can this be done? I noted a thread here where it mentions there is no remote access to mysql but this might not classify as remote as both accounts are on PowWeb. Can someone from PowWeb please answer and confirm or not.
Q2. Second question. I want the second PowWeb account to operate as a sub-domain of the first
ie
MyDomain.com has a sub-domain Forums.MyDomain.com - this is on the first powweb account
MySecondDomain.com is the second PowWeb Account and has a directory for Photos.MyDomain.com
Is this also possible?
Thanks.

Can someone from PowWeb please answer and confirm or not.I am not Powweb, but I asked this question recently, and Powweb databases are open to any account within the service, not limited to the package thru which they were signed for. Remote here means outside of the Powweb network.
Thanks Richard. I had guessed that but need it confirmed.

Thanks Richard. I had guessed that but need it confirmed.I have just been wondering about the procedures used for signup. Does PhotoPost access the forum database directly, or does it use some code of the forum software (eg by include) ? This may be a tricky point with PW clustering. You may have to have access to the signon-code for fine tuning under the scenario envisioned.

Is this also possible?I believe this question can only be answered by Support themselves. I suggest you send a support request. I am a bit sceptical if the DNS is able to resolve the definitions correctly.
I have been musing, and just by DNS definitions and PW package setup it should technically work, as long your two sites are and remain on separate clusters. I believe it can't work when hosted on the same cluster.
Speculative:
In package MyDomain, declare in DNS a CNAME for host FORUMS and assign it the IP number of the cluster servicing MySecondDomain.
In package MySecondDomain, buy a pointer domain setup for MyDomain.com. Then use htaccess control to pick and separate traffic for Forum.MyDomain.com.
