Is there a "dummies" version of installing phpBB along with the backup data from our other host? We just moved from iPowerWeb to PowWeb and have the gz.gtar backup files along with the unzipped phpBB. Any links for step-by-step installation?
Thank You,
Allen
Unzip the phpBB package to your local system.
Upload the phpBB directory to where you want to put it on your site in the htdocs folder.
Run the standard phpBB install script.
Once installed go into the admin panel, I am pretty sure there is a restore backup facility. If not go into phpMyAdmin and restore your backup from there.

phpBB is now loaded however I keep getting error messages during backup. Any forums to discuss possible cause of these errors. When I try to restore the bb1.tar.gz.gtar file, I get this message:
>> General Error
Error importing backup file
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '‹' at line 1

message got cut off:
General Error
Error importing backup file
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '‹' at line 1

Check you are running the same (or a later) version of MySQL.
If the error is in line 1, check that the file is or isn't compressed correctly.
There was a bug in phpMyAdmin related to this.
