Changing File Hierarchy

I was reading a post below about dropping the osCommerce from the file hierarchy ie: going from
mysite/osCommerce/catalog/
to
mysite/catalog/
which seems like something I would like to do, but, how big a can of worms does this open? I would probably do it through golive, so the files would be updated automatically, but there seem to be a lot of osCommerce files with internal references that I would have to change manually or what? Reinstall? Any advice on this - since it is an optional alteration, I'm not committed to doing this, but if it is easy... Thanks for any advice!

Are you sure you wouldn't just want everything under your site's top level - no catalog folder?

osCommerce is nice in this regard, you have to change only the two configure.php files to reflect the new paths, and everything else falls into place.
