Anyone else having problems with the FTP? After uploading my files, it just goes back to the log in screen, and there are no files there.

What FTP server number are you on? Disable any firewall, Norton AV, pop-up blocker.

Try an FTP program, FileZilla is an open-source (free) FTP program. Download it here: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net

FTP 04. I have another FTP I can try. I've just never had Pow's FTP do this before.

Thanks

I have had no problem uploading other than slow speed which could be related to connectivity on my side. I am using ws_ftp_pro and tonight I have twice tried uploading a 5mb folder structure and have been disconnected during the transfer and unable to log back into my FTP site. I am the network admin here so I know its not network changes on my side. Anyone else having difficulty connecting to ftp and having disconnects?

I'm on ftp06 and I have that problem often, but it has been much worse in the past two weeks. Today is especially bad from home and work. using ws-ftp pro or filezilla. I'm testing a couple of forums and cms so it's a pain in the bottom. I have no way of knowing whether it's on powwebs end or not so I just keep trying.

edited to add - the error says "directory identifier unavailable" but it's probably disconnected by then. it also says "!receive error: connection reset" then "!send error: connection reset".

I'll try again in the morning. But that wasn't working then either today.

Check that you guy's have passive mode turned ON in your FTP program.

I've had no problems connecting or staying connected with ws_ftp, FileZilla, WebFTP or my WYSIWYG programs.

Passive is on. Tracert this morning shows that it has problems transitioning from att.net to verizon.net. It's dropping a few packets on the first two Verizon hops. I'm not that savvy about what goes on this deep into the networking, but I'm guessing that might have something to do with it. I'll check it from work and see what that shows. I can't believe I didn't think of running tracert before now. Doh!

edited to add: verio.net hops are killing it even worse from work. Is there anyone Powweb or I can contact about this? I use Comcast at home, the company apparently uses Qwest, and if Verio is who powweb uses, maybe they can give them a nudge.

I just downloaded filezilla and it wont accept my password. It's my FTP password, right?

I can get on to ftp07 pretty consistently with webftp (webftp.powweb.com), but have about a 90% failure rate when trying to log on with SmartFTP. Unfortunately, my cgi scripts don't work when posted with webftp (I'm not convinced its transferring in ASCII mode).

I can't get on at all using the dos-based ftp command. I used to do this - has this capability been disabled?

I am trying to log into my FTP account through webftp.powweb.com, but it keeps telling me - "Incorrect Hostname, Username, or Password. "I know that the hostname, username and password is correct. Is there something I could be doing wrong? Or should I just get a FTP program?

Or should I just get a FTP program?Strongly recommended. The're several free and open source products, apart from commercial offerings.

If your user/pass does't work, it won't work using any program. I suggest you log into OPS and check your ftpxx.powweb.com (the ftpxx numbers can be found at OPS> Packages> Website> FTP). Verify or reset your FTP user/pass words, or even create a new FTP user. Remember user/pass words are CaSe SenSiTiVe and FTP accounts are disabled after 90 days of inactivity (you can re-activate in OPS). If you use any Firewall or Norton AV type antivirus try dropping them temporarily.

Turn "Passive Mode" on in SmartFTP
As far as I know dos FTP still works, but I may be wrong.
