I can't access any of my Web sites that use my package. DNS seems good. Mail is up.

Anyone else?

My site is down too. Also seems to be affecting my mail. HTTP and MAIL connections are sporadic, and VERY slow.

More or less the same with me. I can ping cluster05 lightning fast. It's just that my site rarely responds. DoS attack maybe??

Cluster05 has been hit by DOS. Currently our Admin. department is working on this to get it resolved as quick as possible and have you up and running. Thank you for your understanding.

I'm no newbie, and have read many times in the forums about a DOS attack, but what the heck is it? What's happening?

Heres a quick definition...

Short for denial-of-service attack, a type of attack on a network that is designed to bring the network to its knees by flooding it with useless traffic. Many DoS attacks, such as the Ping of Death and Teardrop attacks, exploit limitations in the TCP/IP protocols. For all known DoS attacks, there are software fixes that system administrators can install to limit the damage caused by the attacks. But, like viruses, new DoS attacks are constantly being dreamed up by hackers.

We usually experience a distributed dos attack which comes from different machines from different locations which makes it harder to track and block out.

Curiously, I also had MySQL problems (sql10) while this was happening (my sites are also on cluster05). Possibly related. But everything seems fine now.
