View Full Version : Copyright Website
I just launched this copyright website. Any comments would be appreciated. The design comes from the Article Manager template.
www.copyrightdisclosure.com
I hope to officially launch the website in October. In the meantime, feel free to start benefiting from registering copyright for your work. If anyone has problems to understand the system, please tell me.
Thanks for your comments. The frontpage of the website clearly states that the scope of registration is to claim the date and I know that the US will not accept that as a proof. However in Europe it is accepted. I work with copyright in Europe and I am well involved in what is happening in the EU. A lot of users need something as a proof and that website will hopefully give them an extra relief. The website is free of charge and will remain like that.
This website is meant to be a modern alternative to the practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself via mail post, sometimes called a "poor man's copyright." Online registration is fast and easy providing instant protection for your work. You don't make clear here that the practice of sending an e-mail to oneself is used for proof of date and therefore when I read this I was puzzled as to why someone would send something to themselves.
keyplyr and others is right to be confused about the purpose of the site as it doesn't explain it is aimed at a European set of rules. Maybe a rider or disclaimer somewhere for US surfers would be a good idea.
Like keyplyr I don't see the point of the registration. I'm in Europe like yourself, but doubt that you'll avoid being in the middle of some legal disputes and then costing yourself for what is essentially a freely provided service.
Articles written for journals, magazines and newspapers usually have copyright notices somewhere - even if only the copyright of the whole publication covers the work explicitly when published.
Educational material is frequently composites of ideas and work from many sources. How is this helped by registration.
Sorry to sound so negative - the layout of the site is clean and neat, it's just the idea that isn't.
True . .on principle this website is useless.... and I agree with that point.
However when considering, the uncertainty of certain persons about this non-registration in the world, they get a bit uncomftable. So sometimes thay send a letter to themselves with the contents of their work and they never open that letter. That has the stamp date and mark which is valid for a European case. This website offers an alternative (or a backup) to that old system since if for a reason that letter gets lost in your papers, then you loose your possibility.
Copyright is created the moment you made it public and this website offers that service. It helps to make it public - free of charge. Other website offer this service against payment e.g. www.copyrightwitness.com (and others)
btw .. on the frontpage, I have this written - In the U.S., you will have to register for a nonrefundable filing fee of $30, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work....
That is quite clear for me that for US, this is different if they are looking for a lawsuit.
Keep sending comments . .I love it ;)
