View Full Version : I am losing my mind!

Hello all.

I really need some feedback to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problems I am. I convinced that tech support thinks I don't know what I'm doing.

Here's the deal: ever since Neptune came back online after the disc replacement, my site has become utterly possessed. Everyday, and I do mean everyday, right about this time, for about an hour, my site goes down.

First I get a DNS error for awhile.

Then the site comes back up, but my .js and .css files, which are included from another directory, are missing.

That's right missing. I go to ftp and am able to login ok, but all my files have become invisible. I know they're there somewhere, because I can view at least some of them online and I know that within the hour, the site will be back up just like nothing happened.

I am also currently getting mail errors in my mail client. That will go away too.

I've been emailing tech support daily and keep getting "go nowhere" responses. For example, I have been advised that javascript and css are browser issues. Duh! I realize that, but if the browser can't access the files in the first place, it can't screw up the code.

I promise I know how to troubleshoot well enough to know that this is not a problem on my end. Right at this moment, all my javascript menus are missing and a friend contacted me a half hour ago to let me know he was getting a DNS error. I've also tried viewing the site in 3 completely different browsers. I'm hoping someone else is having the same problem and it's not just me.

Thank you for listening.

This is crazy. It doesn't even do the same thing long enough for tech support to see it. Right now, I see my menus again on the main page, but it is missing on the other pages. In a few more minutes, it'll all be back up again and I'll be told there is no problem on my site....until tomorrow, that is.

Raven,
I see all the non-member area and it seems all is there.

You probably think I'm already mad, but I'm not crazy. Honest! My mail is working again too and I just got a reply from tech support saying they can't duplicate the error. I don't know what to do, other than hope that someone else is having a similar problem. It is too sporadic to catch.

If it happens again tomorrow, I'll tell you as soon as it happens so you can at least see what I'm talking about. The fact is, I absolutely did not optimize my site for older browsers, cause frankly, I don't give a...... ;) so needless to say, without my CSS and JavaScript, my site is a comical nightmare.

Anyway, if anyone out there has had the same problem, please speak up.

Thanks.

Ravenesse,

I've got a site monitoring tool that will parse the page contents. Unfortunately, it only does HTTP. If you don't mind the log file bloat, I can fire it up to scan one or more pages of your site at whatever periodic rate you'd like.

The down side is that it can't test FTP. I've tested by pulling your menu.js, main.css, and index pages.

Let me know.

I don't know about DNS errors, but I can officially say that I have been having mail trouble myself. When I log in, I have mail there. I click the box beside it after I have read it to make it go away. I click delete and the darned thing logs me out of my mail box. When I try to perform any other functions in my mailboxes it logs me out. I don't know if that's what you mean, but that's what has been happening to me. I haven't reported it yet because I wasn't entirely sure if it was just a fluke. I'm going to go check again, but I don't think you're crazy!

For Alleira:

I had the same log-out problem as you. Still have it. The mail software has a bug (ahem...isssue) with certain browsers.

Here's the workaround. After you log in, click the Inbox button. I know, you're already at the Inbox, but click the Inbox button anyway. Then the Delete and Move buttons will work correctly. At least, they do for me.

(Aplogies to Raven for the side issue here.)
