I'm going to see if PayPay's Website Pro will work for me. So...the first thing I need is an API certificate from them installed by the host. How is this done???

You cannot install a SSL certificate at PowWeb. YOu can use the shared SSL certificate if needed. URLs are listed in OPS on the Package > HTTP tab.

According to PayPal I need to install "their" 'API certificate. So does this mean I'm out of luck with Powweb?

If you must use PayPal's SSL certificate and install it on the server, then it will not work here.

I remember this discussion about the Paypal certificate. I understand it is not a SLL certificate, but used to identify the partner as part of the data sent to Paypal, not for encoding. I seem to remember that this issue has been discussed several times in the osCommerce forum section. Please search there for other answers.

Mike, you misunderstand the PayPal instructions. They are not asking you to install an SSL certificate. They want you to install a certificate they generate which is just a file you place where your shopping cart software knows to look for it. They use the word install because they assume you are using a commercial cart system which has such an option.

Edit - Ah, Richard and I were posting at the same time...

Okay makes more sense to me now!

Sorry if I misled anyone...I'm so far in the dark about what PayPal wants! Funny thing about PayPal...they want to sell you a service bit make it so difficult to implement that the best solution becomes dropping the service. Even their tech guys don't know what's going on!

Thanks again all, I appreciate your time and help!

Even their tech guys don't know what's going on! You can set up servers and services in so many different ways, help desk people will likely never know about all of them and I am sure even Paypal developers will be shaking their heads in dismay over some customer environments they get to see :D
