500 internal server error..

I've suddenly just started getting this when people try to download products from my OsCommerce cart, I never used to have it... Anyone know whats wrong? My site is working fine it's just after they've paid and after clicking download link that I'm getting this message.. Obviously I need to know how to fix this fairly speedy as I'm having to take my Cart offline till this is sorted..

The 500 internal server error may appear if there is something wrong with the file that is being called. Check to see that the file permissions are correct. For example, the script or the directory (folder) in which it resides may need to be set to 755, but perhaps it is not. Or the file was corrupted. Do you have a backup?
