on a side note, the next e-bay is already around (in my opinion), it is the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).
Back on topic, I posted a review to your newer post asking for a review of your auction site. Hope it helps! :D

If you can get traffic you will have a successful site. The problem is, you are going to need a lot of capital to adverise and promote your site. Honestly, you got a great domain name, thepawn.com is superb. One possibility for you is to concentrate on auctioning certain products. For example, just sell cameras or just computers; this I believe would help.
Another option, if you are trying to make quick profit, is to sell your domain. You might be able to get good money for it. Good luck. Bret - metalcircuit.com (http://www.metalcircuit.com)
i always wondered for how long will ebay have their monopoly in the auction market ...Forever. However long that is on the internet.
Other niche auction sites can enjoy some success, but it is on a very small scale compared to ebay's reach. ebay/PayPal is the WalMart of online selling. It would take something truly revolutionary to knock them off that perch.
The beauty of the internet is there's a revolution every day...

A year ago, someone wanted to hire me to create an auction website. I told him he would need alot of advertising to compete with eBay. He had a budget of $60,000 for the website, including advertising. Needless to say, he gave up on the idea.
You can still have an online auction but you need plenty of items to buy and sell. That means you need plenty of visitors to buy and sell. You can start with free ads for sellers and free service for visitors for a limited time. Use sponsor ads such as Google ads to help pay for the site costs.
How can you get alot of traffic quickly AND get people to actually use the site? Do you, your family and friends have things to sell? Make sure there are ALOT of items available. People are more likely to shop and find something of interest where there are more choices.
