I read through most of the sites here and at OSCommerce contributions with no definitve answers. I want to charge a base rate state tax- only for California, optional insurance per price, and USPS shipping . Whats working best for you guys? Thanx, Marlee

It's pretty straight forward to add the California Tax:
1) Admin Control panel - select Locations/Taxes
2) Choose Tax Zones and create a zone called "California"
3) Choose Tax Rates and specify the zone and tax rate.
4) When you add a new product, make sure you have Taxible Goods selected in the description.

For USPS
1) Select Shipping Module
2) Install
3) request an account from USPS via the instructions provided...they respond fast with an acct #
4) Once you are emailed the account, follow the instructions near the bottom of the email and email them back asking to be placed on the "Production Server"...they will reply back when it is active
5) Edit your options in the USPS Shipping module...add your acct# AND CHOOSE PRODUCTION SERVER. Don't bother with using TEST.
6) Select MY Store from the Configuration menu
7) Choose Shipping/Packaging and enter your correct Postal Code and Country, etc.
8) Tare Weight = the weight of your packaging material WITHOUT the products.

You should be good to go after that. I don't have any info on insurance.

This works great, good directions! (9)Make sure to add weight to product listing edit at bottom, decimals worked fine for small items i.e. (.25) . I haven't tried a buy outside of CA to see if tax is left off price yet. but I think it will . When I find an insurance option I'll post it ,or if anyone has got one please post it. I tried to make thread title easy for newbies to find, so hopefully this is useful to many.
