Hello all,

I have been running an online store for 8 years now but have been doing so through HTML only.

I think it is time that I upgrade to something php based.

I went through the list of powweb available installers and thought that Cube cart then Zen cart then maybe osCommerce looked to be the most professional.

I have only ever really seen osCommerce sites before though... so what is your experience? Which one is the easiest to use - most secure and fastest / user friendly to run / access by an end user?

This has probably been asked numerous times before but... please post your experiences and preferences - as I only want to go through the upgrade once if possible! :)

My store uses osCommerce. I started with this because I had not seen Zen or Cube at the time. Properly implemented, it's a fine solution. It isn't the easiest to customize. No problems for end users. Zen Cart is a spin-off of osCommerce.

As Zen cart is a spin off does that tend to indicate it is more polished and possibly the better solution?

My only issue with Zen cart is that they did not offer a demo site only screen captures which I find to be almost like a warning that they are not to the same level as the others in regards to completeness and or support...

I think I will also try osCommerce for now - I run a phpBB forum so customising will not be a huge issue - well hopefully not! :)

Zen is osC with contributions added and some other features making it easier to customize. It isn't really any more polished.

There are a number of phpBB-related contributions (http://www.oscommerce.com/community?contributions=&search=phpbb&category=all) for osCommerce.

at: http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php, i have noticed a CMS called osc2nuke.

has anyone tried this? how is it? it looks like php-nuke and osc integrated...

yes, as stevel pointed out, zen is the same as osc under the hood. so, osc2nuke is another flavor of osc?

I would have recommended CubeCart as a good starting place, but, they are pretty non responsive for problems or information. Must be if you don't pay for the liscense, they don't really want to help.
