View Full Version : Site loads, but then hesitates

It loads the background color, says done stops for only a few seconds(with dsl, much longer on dialup) then displays the page.

It's been like this most of this month. We're lossing a lot of hits, and I fear it's dialup users who don't wait out that small hesitation before the page displays.

What is wrong with it, and can I fix it?

I'm sorry but that wasn't very helpful.
First of all you can plug just about any site, including sites created by "profesionals" and still get those errors from that checker. Infact a lot of websites I vistis don't even have doctypes and all that, and they run just fine.
Second Using another source to analize the page size, I get a completely different anwser, that the page size is reasonable.
100% of all the errors that thing found were not errors at all, it just didn't like that I was using those atributes withoue a doctype specified.

I appretiate that people try to help by using these tools, but they don't work in all cases. At any rate I have several pages that have a ton more content and pictures and codes and load a lot faster.

However you're comment about google ad syndication does seem to fit. I had a bad feeling it would be one of the ad runners that was causing this. I even removed one random ad generator to see if it helped because it seemed to hang when trying to grab a random ad from my text file.

I guess I'll just keep looking through the ad codes, and remove any that seem to be slow loaders.

Although I understand you have different opinions, I agree with most of what keyplyr wrote.
Also, you should take a note that he said "You might also want to fix those 89 code errors".
Please take it as his trade mark courtesy and an effort to promote the standard.
(Personally, I'm still using bad old simplest html code and not really conforming the latest standard.)

To find the item that is dragging the load time, you can access each item separately, one by one.
(Load just one image, ad banner, and so on.)

I think Google was having DDOS problem (yesterday and today), and maybe it caused some delay, too.

Your main page itself has no problem of the speed.

My site has suddenly stopped loading properly - half the graphics don't come up on the home page when it opens at all and FrontPage says it can't find my website on port 80. My Google page rank has dropped from 5 to 3 too, Not my best afternoon...

Thanks, I know I overreact a little when people start talking about the standerds, but for the life of me no matter what I created that darn thing has never found a page of mine it likes. Bah.

I compressed some images, took out some ads, and am cleaning up a small bit of excess code that probably isn't needed, and I'll reevaluate.

My page rank droped also, first to 2, but now it's back up to 3.
