View Full Version : Several problems because I'm stupid

I recently setup my webpage, http://www.travelingtoddler.com, with ZenCart. When I installed it I put it in the /zen folder. Once I was ready to go live with it, I tried to move everything to the root directory using the ftp server, but it did not work, I guess there were still links pointing to the /zen folder. I restored to the old version and used powweb's file explorer to copy everything to the root directory. I can now access the webpage at travelingtoddler.com, but as soon as you click on any link it jumps to the /zen folder.

Will this create a problem for search engines?

The bigger issue is that I now have duplicates of everything on the server and during some point in this process some files got copied to places where I don't think they should be...I am trying to clean this up, but can't view the webpage using my local files. And becasue I really don't know what I am doing, I need to see that what I am doing is working, or at least not screwing anything up (the site is working fine on the front end). I have tried using dreamweaver, and when I select preview in browser it asked to set up a test server. I pointed it to my powweb ftp, but that doesn't work. What should the test server be? Is there another way to do this? If I can get it all working locally, I can just clear off the server and reupload ZenCart.

Thanks

David

You probably have a configuration file that has the old path in it. In osC it is includes/configure.php - may be that in Zen too.

Thanks Steve. That looks like it. Any suggestions on getting the website to run from my local files?

You can't run the website from your local files - you have to use files on the server.

I suggest getting a real FTP program such as SmartFTP (www.smartftp.com) and see just what it is you have on the server. Delete the old zen folder if no longer needed and make sure your configuration files are correct.
