I’m not that web savvy when it comes to creating websites, but I have no idea why Google won’t index my site. If you search for Photography By Christos, it doesn’t even show up, If I add quotes and search for “Photography By Christos” it only shows my under construction page when I click on the cached link. My site is http://www.photographybychristos.com/ (http://www.photographybychristos.com)
I have read most of the post here regarding search engine optimization and I think I have covered all the bases, everything should be fine.
This is what I have done so far:
-manually submitted my site to Google.
-created a robots.txt file
-created a sitemap.xml file for Google.
-created and uploaded a Google validation file
-I have unique page titles
-I used W3C validation on my code and cleaned up all the errors, so it’s compliant
-Submitted to DMOZ
Folks I have no idea what else to do. Yahoo and MSN although weak, I’m getting listed first for Photography By Christos.
I think the only bad thing I’ve done is added my site to photolinks.com.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Your site is currently in Google, but just barely. Only the main page is in the index, and that page is in a state called "partially indexed". This means its not fully incorporated into the search system. The reason your site doesn't get more attention from Google is that few other sites link to your site. A search for links to your site on Yahoo! shows less than 5 links from other websites, and those are low-quality links. I checked out photolinks.com and discovered that their links are all routed through a script and are unlikely to ever be seen by any of the search engines.
Links are the cornerstone to the methods of all of the major search engines. Until you build your link popularity the search engines won't crawl your site fully or frequently, and most importantly, your site will not appear in the search results.
Do a Google search on "link building" and you'll find many suggestions on getting more quality links to your site. Submitting to quality directories like The Open Directory Project is certainly a good idea, although getting the DMOZ to actually approve a site can be painfully slow. Getting reciprocal links from other photography sites would also be a good idea. Good luck!

Rick, thank you for taking the time too respond to my post. How did you exactly find out how many sites link to my site on Yahoo?
I will take your advice and try to build my inbound links; I will be spending some time on this site and searching out the answers I’m looking for.
Thanks again
Chris

All three search engines, Google, Yahoo! and MSN, support the following -
To find links to your site's main page, enter:
link:http://www.photographybychristos.com (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=link:http://www.photographybychristos.com)
(Note: Google limits the information shown by the link command. The count shown reflects the number of high-quality links to the URL entered, but not the actual total number of links that Google is aware of. And the pages that are listed are not simply the sources of those high-quality links, but just a limited sample of all known links.)
To find which pages from a site are in the index, enter:
site:http://www.photographybychristos.com (http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://www.photographybychristos.com)
