Should my alias be www? It currently shows * and thats it.

That just means the your site has a catch-all address.

ftp.yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com will work as will sassafras.yourdomain.com and astralplane.yourdomain.com.

Note that if you create a CNAME record for a subdomain or as a pointer to another server, it will override the *.
