Hi,

I've been sorting out a computer for a friend which has had tons of Spyware and some very nasty virus' on it.

Before removing the virus PSW.Agent.OV, the internet was working perfectly on both Firefox and Internet Explorer. After going into safe-mode and removing PSW.Agent.OV (because in normal windows mode the file was locked), the internet no longer works. It seems from the Local Area Connection Status page that the computer is sending packets to the router yet the router is not replying.

I installed a wireless connection using a Belkin Wireless USB stick, and configured it using the Belkin utility. Here it seems that the router is sending packets but the computer is not sending any to the router. The gateway and ip addresses of both have been configured manually to the correct settings and only one wireless connection is active at any time.

Plus, when using the belkin wireless utility, it shows on it's summary screen a connection from PC to router AND to the internet, and it is still not working.

Any ideas would be gratefully received, as the friend needs to use the internet ASAP.

can you ping the router? open a command prompt (start | run| cmd) and type ping 192.168.X.1 (the x is USUALLY a 0 or 1, depending on the router brand.

also, from the command prompt, type ipconfig /all to see all your connection settings. posting those results here will give people here a good idea about how to proceed...
